It would make the season exciting you know, russian mafia, gambling, complaining sure that sounds like a great idea lol

Meh, as long as you don't get him together with Sergei there shouldn't be any worries.

Kostitsyn could be a super pick up. He should be practically free given that he will surely be gone next year even if he stays, and his salary is not a great deal compared with his production and reputation (as opposed to sergei who was far cheaper).

He has the ability to be a 30-30 guy and montreal is a real pressure cooker of a town. When sergei wen to a harder working, bluecollar team with a virtually nonexistent magnifying glass on the team, he suddenly thrived. San Jose is kinda that sort of team, except that he wont be counted on as much as he was in MTL.

Best of all, his cap hit is very reasonable, and even after acquiring him, the sharks would still have around 1.5M left on the cap depending on who gets sent down or traded. He's only 26, so he's just entering his prime and if it works out, he could be resigned for his prime years like burns. They do have 12M in cap space with couture as the only key guy to be resigned, so they could have money to keep him longer term if they so chose.

I would be satisfied with acquiring him.

Our old buddy Scott Hannan signs with the Flames for one year at $1. Loved him as a Shark. Not so much once the clutch and grab days were gone.

He's still quite alright in todays game. He still has good mobility. First step not so mucj, but he never had a good one anyway. His angles and position ing is still good

The deadline to sign Patrick White passed yesterday. Sharks should be awarded the comp pick (2nd rd, 55th overall) before the end of the week.

Incredible foresight for Doug to make this trade 2 years ago and know that he would be getting a 2nd rounder in a supposedly deep draft. :noidea:

Merged the "Another Move Coming" and "UFA Day" threads to this one since there is a lot of overlapping discussion.

I wonder is Doug is waiting to officially have this pick available to him before he makes another move.

How was it decided that the pick would be the 55th overall?

White was a 1st round pick 25 overall. Comp picks are awarded based on the same draft position a round later than the origional draft choice which, in a 30 team league, would be the 55th overall pick. That is subject to there being no other teams awarded comp picks that would fall prior to San Jose's.

Why do you guys think Wellwood hasn't signed with anyone yet? For sure he doesn't want to go back to the KHL.

That's a good question I thought he played well enough last season to get another NHL contract. I'm sure he'll get signed before the season starts.

He must have locker room issues. Didn't shark players say Wellwood doesn't even own a cell phone? Maybe his agent is the same way, and nobody can get ahold of either one of them.

Damn, Ethan Moreau to the Kings for 1 year $600K. Would have loved to have him on the 4th line for the Sharks.....especially at that price.
