Per Matt Miocco, two candidates left, Bowles and Austin. The interview process will be completed tomorrow.

Looks like Kyle is about to land some where because he just left Cleveland. I think we are going to hear some news very soon. Im hearing its Quinn and Kyle shanahan might be a package(Jets the leader). Also hearing Rex interview went great and he has 49ers as his #1(I don't want him). Rex always talks a good game but cant back it up.


I think we might name HC after this weekend.


Question: 49ers cant name HC of a coach that is still in the playoffs? If so that mans any of the guys that are in the playoffs are off limits unless they wait.

The 49ers are not scheduled to interview Kyle Shanahan for HC position per ESPN Insider. I prefer promoting Fangio to Quinn. If the coach is going to be Fangio, I would definately expect a quick announcement.

I really could live with that. I've just been waiting here to see who will be the HC of the 9ers before posting about players,contracts, etc. but this actually looks good to me.

I'd be ok with it too. Though I wonder if Kyle Shanahan is really Fangio's choice or a compromise from the front office for him to be HC.

Good point. Fangio might not have the pull to pick the next OC.

I think that'll be the tell. If for whatever reason we don't announce our new HC by next week, it's someone on a playoff team.

I read somewhere that Fangio and Shanahan have the same agent and Fangio likes the kid. If I was a HC candidate, I would nott take any job where I wasn't allowed to name my own assistants.

I guess it depends on how bad you want the job. Obviously if it's someone you know and can get along with it make saying yes easier. And where do you draw the line? For Harbaugh, Rathman and Tomsula and I think Solari were all from previous HC's. I know it wasn't "required" that they be kept, but I remember they were "strongly" recommended.

I agree a coach should be able to choose his assistants otherwise I'd be looking over my shoulder a lot.

I think we will hear the choice after this weekends games. I have a feeling its Shanahan's or Fangio and I like the idea of Kyle as our OC. I also like that Fangio would promote with in.

If the the Choices are Quinn and Shanahan or Fangio and Shanahan, I would take Fangio just because he knows the players and might be the better DC anyways. Quinn upside is he is younger and knows seattle and can be long term HC. Fangio might be a stop gap. Both are not proven HC's so its going to be Interesting.
If we go by what york and Baalke are looking for "teacher, proven HC" Mike is the pick. outside shot would be Rex. Lets hope its not rex.

Honestly as a Rams fan I'm okay with Vic as your HC.

I wonder if the SF Brass are worried about Kyle going to the Rams.

He just came from Cleveland u really think he will go to another team with no QB. wouldn't make much sense. Atleast at SF they have a QB and RB's and some WRs. 49ers are a better option for him. Now he might go because of Fisher but I think he would pick the 49ers over the rams if he had to pick. Just my opinion.

Quinn might know Seattle, but remember back in the day, Sam Wyche new the 49ers well. How well did that help him beat SF?

To me, Fangio is better than Quinn and it's not even close. Hell the Seattle defense was going through struggles just missing Bobby Wagner and a hurting Kam Chancellor. We literally were down to 4/11 defensive starters and were still top 5. I don't know if people realize just how awesome a job our defensive coaches did.

There are teams that can't break top 10 with their entire starting defense. Our defense got to top 5 missing 7 defensive starters AND the primary position backups (DL Dorsey/Williams, LB Borland/Skuta, DB Cox/Ward/Cook). Our defense is all that saved us from having a top 5 draft pick and the 3 months of board arguing on whether to draft Mariota/Winston to replace Kap.

You are exactly right. It is amazing what the defense did considering the injuries. You also have to consider that Pete Carroll is a defensive specialist and it is his defense that Quinn runs. Harbaugh was completely hands off the defense and Fangio was in reality the head coach of the defense.
