I just don't think Feliz has the required mental fortitude to pitch for long stretches, he too often resorts back to his heat slinging urges

And I'll say it again, no one pushed for, wanted or defended his ability to start from the beginning,

One of the biggest mistakes they made with him was putting him in the bullpen to begin with, at least for as long as they did

... unless you are counting the 58 starts in 85 appearances he made in the minors.

Although both Feliz and Ogando can have success as a starter, I see them going for 6 innings and then work the bullpen. Not exactly Ryan prototypes. Darvish, Holland and Harrison are more like 7/8 inning pitchers.

Pitches per inning:

Ogando 17.5
Feliz 17.3
Darvish 16.5
Holland 15.4
Harrison 15.2 (2012)

By the way, Ogando's fastball was reaching 97/98 last year and only 93/95 this year.

Not disagreeing but Ogando was hitting 96 pretty regularly last night

I just realized those numbers I quoted are his release speeds, however they are down this year from the previous 3 years. He does seem to pick up speed as the season goes on though. You can check his velocity at Brooks Baseball.

Feliz lasted 0.2 in the top of the 5th.

1H, 2BB ... got a ground out and a fly out ... left with the bases loaded.

RR was already down 15-3 ... so wonder why he was pulled?

Maybe he was on a pitch count of 20.

Couldn't really expect more than that at this point, hopefully next time is better

I don't really see Feliz making any kind of legitimate major league action this year. If he is healthy enough for a spot start then I might consider rolling him out, but not if the division is still up in the air. I want our best guys going down the stretch to seal the deal. Down the road Feliz is destined for the rotation. I can see him starting for a few years then taking over the closing job after Joe Nathan is done (probably in 2-3 years). He could be a really solid number 3 guy and would take the spot vacated by Colby Lewis when he retires (Assuming Lewis plays for another 5 years, which is likely). For now, I want Feliz to focus on his future so he doesn't rush into coming back for the postseason and accidentally re-injure himself.

Feliz and Harry rehabbing...Tepesche soon all good news. I predict none of the above get in the rotation this year unless there is another injury.
