I'm not so sure about that. I think that bridge is burned, it's over at this point but I'm sure Berry has a Plan B like for example Winston or Mariotta...nothing spectacular but a Plan B.
I mean, Njoku went from demanding a deal to staying to looking into signing a long term deal (and saying he wants to finish his career here).

If the Browns decide to keep him what choice does he have but to try and ball out for his next contract?

Because Watson is a scumbag.

And Baker- when healthy- can definitely be a good QB. Baker wont be the best of the best- but he can be very good. Last year he was injured, he missed weeks with Covid, the offensive line fell apart health wise- OBJ quit and Landry got hurt. It was a disaster all around- and they still went 8-9. They got positively fucked in the Green Bay and Chargers games with insanely bad calls.

the Green Bay game is interesting. Baker had some great throws but threw a ton of pics. He was playing behind a make shift line with shit WR's. He had not practiced in 2 weeks. He flew up by himself the day of the game because he had been in covid isolation and just got out of covid protocols. He had a fractured shoulder and torn labrum

and the Browns came down to a bad call of possibly beating Green Bay in Lambeau.

I dont want to give up 3 first rounders and Greg Newsome for some scumbag making 40 million a year who the last year he played led his team to a 4-12 record.
where I can agree is I hoped their choice was to keep Baker because they believe he's the best option...because to do this costs us no assets.

But if they believe Watson (or any other QB) gives us a much better chance to win then you have to look into it and see what it would take.

I think the history of the QB position in Cleveland has been so horrid that you’re now overvaluing a mediocre QB that will never win big. Mayfield is a competent NFL starter. He’s never claiming a Bye and winning a Super Bowl.
I mean we weren't that far from a bye in 2020 with an awful defense. would I bet on it happening? Not before seeing him post injury. But I wouldn't say never.

The offer is supposedly 2 or 3 1st's or whatever they get for Baker after shipping him to a 3rd team like Indy + Newsome or Ward + Hunt
seems like many are saying it's picks and no players....for sure not any expensive players.

Not sure what you are hearing but everything I have seen is picks (at least 2 1st's total) and players. Have to anyway, Watson with a $35M cap hit and the Texans are wanting some young players too

why are they unlikely to get him? Of all the teams making pitches if winning is near the top of his list could argue the Browns are his best option.

These are different circumstances in getting a player. Is there an alternative to go about this other than they way the Browns did (other than just not trying)?

would add this is the NFL and the stars don't pick Cleveland idea not close to the same as it might be in the NBA. Now if weather is his #1 factor during the season then, sure, Cleveland goes to bottom of list.

If we were talking about most NFL players, I would agree. Because of the NFL's salary cap and the how relatively short an NFL career is, most players have to go to whoever will pay them. That's part of how Cleveland has the roster it does.

Guys like Watson are not most NFL players. They're getting paid wherever they go and stars, especially young ones, tend not to pick cities like Cleveland.

The only way players would really want to come to Cleveland is if they start winning and have multiple playoff appearances. And show they're only a few players away from being a serious S.B. contender. A legit shot at the ultimate goal would change players minds about the city. But obviously the Browns aren't in that category.

Yes. His problem has been a season where he had a head coach who was in over his head and injuries. When he has had a grown up for a coach and been healthy, he's been good. He isn't ever going to be elite, so he needs a better team around him...but if Trent Dilfer can win a Super Bowl, so can Baker.

Watsons decision may be based on more than just which team is more ready to win now. If memory serves, Watson has experience with Carolinas coach. Also, if I understand what has been reported those are the offers that the Texans have agreed to, that may not mean that Watson agrees.
The HC went from COTY to in over his head and not a grown up?

That's fair and as mentioned if weather is his thing he wont be coming here. If winning and living wherever he wants the other 7-8 months matters then he'll strongly consider Cleveland.

I'm good either way.

Obviously they aren't? I mean, they were pretty close with baker and bad defense. Defense is vastly improved and guessing he thinks he's a lot better than Baker so likely thinks we have a decent shot with him.

do we? Not sure...only matters if he thinks so.

I doubt his Plan B is not a clear upgrade to baker (or it will just be Baker). Just my opinion.

Oh, I agree that if his decision is 100% based on winning, Cleveland would be a great choice and probably the best of the 3. Heck, they went 8-9 last year despite Bakers arm and shoulder falling off. If he was healthy, they're solidly in the playoffs and probably win a game or 2.

As we've seen though, winning usually isn't the sole reason involved.

Pretty sure it's been our beat reporter for sure and some national guys saying no players.

I could see wanting young players but not someone expensive with only a year left on his deal (like ward or Hunt).

Getting a feeling Atlanta is in the mix and pushing hard. Watson could be that guy that chooses city and destination over winning...I could definitely see that. Atlanta is probably in the worst position football wise and if Ryan has $40M dead cap. Seems crazy

Yeah, apparently he has a relationship with the owners from being a ball boy when he was a kid or something.

My opinion is where the Browns are right now they're not a S.B. contender.

One trip to the playoffs doesn't mean anything really.
