How would that work? I guess he would have to pitch until they finish the game or they lose him as the DH right?
Or maybe if his arm is good enough to pitch, he switches to the outfield?

My understanding of the rules. He starts the game as the DH. He enters the game as the pitcher in the 8th. The Dodgers at that moment lose their designated hitter. As long as Ohtani is the pitcher of record he can hit in that spot. As soon as he is removed the from the game, the new pitcher has that spot in the batting order. Then it would become like old school National League late inning stuff where you hit a pinch hitter for your relief pitcher and you may even employ the double switch. Not sure how that works. I don't think he had to do that with the Angels, but I don't remember how it worked.
Yes. Didn’t think of this. Another viable scenario to keep him in the game after he pitches. Good shit. Didn’t think of that.Or maybe if his arm is good enough to pitch, he switches to the outfield?
They changed the rules for him, the new 'Ohtani DH' rule is when he pitches he is both pitcher and DH. When he stops pitching he can still DH.My understanding of the rules. Ha! These are baseball moves we might forget about now with the DH.
He needs to at least learn how to say thank you in English. They changed the rules for him, the new 'Ohtani DH' rule is when he pitches he is both pitcher and DH. When he stops pitching he can still DH.
What's the 'Shohei Ohtani rule?' A look at MLB rule changes for 2022 and beyond
The 'Shohei Ohtani rule' will benefit teams beyond just the Angels and their two-way star. Here's a look at all the new rules coming to MLB this season.www.latimes.com
And before some of you complain, Ohtani is great for baseball and I support this rule.
Baseball should be thanking himHe needs to at least learn how to say thank you in English.
Oh he’s truly great, learn to speak the language from where you are making your money. Make an effort at least. Then you don’t need an interpreter to gamble your money away.Baseball should be thanking him
He is great for baseball and it’s still a stupid rule. They changed the rules for him, the new 'Ohtani DH' rule is when he pitches he is both pitcher and DH. When he stops pitching he can still DH.

Why are you bringing your nativist bull shit here but are also so quick to clutch pearls when someone posts anything slightly political in this forum?Oh he’s truly great, learn to speak the language from where you are making your money. Those two ideas don’t really cohere. They made the rule so he could continue to be the unicorn he is. Without the rule we get less of him. And I fail to see what is harmed by the rule.He is great for baseball and it’s still a stupid rule.
I’ll keep saying what I want to say there chump. A sports star is always a legit topic here. Why are you bringing your nativist bull shit here but are also so quick to clutch pearls when someone posts anything slightly political in this forum?
Who cares what language he speaks?
Sure they do. How is it fair to manipulate a rule so one team and one player can take advantage? That’s not right. It’s a violation of fair play and the spirit of rules. Leaving the rule as is doesn’t rob the league of watching Ohtani play. Those two ideas don’t really cohere.
I wouldn’t worry about it. You can say racist shit all day long and I’ll be the guy who gets action taken against my account because I call the “speak the language!” Guy a racist.I’ll keep saying what I want to say there chump. A sports star is always a legit topic here.
He's not the only player who gets to use that rule. Heck it's the last vestige of the pre-DH era, where the pitcher actually hits too.Sure they do. Bwahahaha! Everybody has a DH who can throw 98 in their system. He's not the only player who gets to use that rule.
No, when a pitcher is taken out they can’t return to action.Heck it's the last vestige of the pre-DH era, where the pitcher actually hits too.
It rigs the game to the benefit of the one team that can take advantage. How does it 'violate fair play'? What's unfair, who is harmed?

I bet more than a few teams are looking for those nowBwahahaha! Everybody has a DH who can throw 98 in their system.
Then the next pitcher can bat for themselves if they are good enoughNo, when a pitcher is taken out they can’t return to action.
Other teams are allowed to take advantage too. That's how games evolve. It rigs the game to the benefit of the one team that can take advantage.

thunder's dumb point is if he spoke English he wouldn't have hired that guyWait a minute. I thought Ohtani said he wasn't aware of that guy stealing from him.
If that's incorrect my bad. But don't recall seeing any stories of him having knowledge of what was going on.
