They might get 2 first rounders if it's a team like the Chiefs who will almost assuredly be drafting in the late 20's/early 30's. A team like us that would probably be offering something like a projected mid-teens pick? No way.
I agree wholeheartedly and hope my previous post wasn't interpreted as believing the Bears should offer up multiple 1st rounders. All I meant was the Browns would undoubtedly demand at least two of them and likely other picks/players as well, which should immediately remove the Bears from the Garrett trade sweepstakes. And the team who could land him in a trade will likely have to renegotiate his contract.

I have a feeling the Bears name is going to be mentioned around this a good deal. I don't know if we'll do it, but it just seems like under Poles we've been in the mix on most everything like this. It fits a position of need, too. I guarantee we will inquire.

I do not think you're getting two 1st's and other picks/players for a defensive player anymore. There wasn't a defensive player drafted until #15 last year.

My worst tbought is,I believe Poles wont give up a bunch of draft capital for Garrett, but GB or Minnesota will....
GB being the worst of the two thoughts......

I could be off base but GB and Minny seem to be content with their drafts and generally shy away from bringing in top-dollar free agents.

I'd just as soon hang onto our draft picks or if anything expand by trading back. I'm not completely against trading up if the situation is right (the exception is our 10th pick - either we keep it or trade back), but all things being equal I prefer we hang onto them. There are plenty of free agents that will be available for signing at key positions such as those in the trenches.

Should I stay or should I go (with apologies to the Clash):

Some interesting takes as to who the Bears will keep or let walk.

I hope your right AJ.......

Love I believe is not Josh Allen to where him and him alone can the Pack to the SB.......but with a dominating def,Love could possibly do it then......
GB could be looking at the North as Detroit just lost BJ,after being one and done......
Minnesota after being one and done with a Darnolg looking to be that back up qb he has been and not knowing of who will be the starter next season there.....
Couple with our team that just simply crumbled this past season.....adding rookie offensive lineman will have to be up to the task of stopping that dline.....
Packers are 10th with the most to spend salary cap wise.....
Adding Garrett could be huge in making them the favorite for the North......I believe he is their missing piece.
Im just not liking the scenario....

I hope to hell this doesnt happen......

Packers defense ranked 6th in points allowed and 6th in yards allowed. Thats very good. There really is no reason for them to spend money since they already have a pretty good statistical defense on a modest budget.

Are we sure we want to sign Trey Smith to a monster contract? After that debacle against the Eagles pass rush (and no blitizing), no unit looked worse in that SB blowout than the Chiefs OL. Can't say for sure that Smith himself played poorly. It's so tough to evaluate individual performances on the OL. I'd like to see some follow up analysis on those performances, but he was part of the line tonite and they were flat out wretched.

The Philly DLine is a bear. They are good without Jalen Carter. And Jalen Carter is arguably the best defensive player in the league now. I think he is more likely to be available as a FA now though.

I do want to be fair and not necessarily state as fact that Smith personally played a shit game without finding out more info. Nevertheless, it does give me pause, especially knowing he's going to command major coin.

That Philadelphia def line is what Im imagining GBs-Detroit or Minnesotas def line will be like if one of tbose 3 trade for Garrett......and like I said,GB being my worst nightmare.

GB has the cash to trade for and pay Garrett.......
Detroit with Hutch and Garrett paired....monstrous line.
Minnesota a very good def line now, imagine Garrett on there....

Add Garrett to one of those 3 teams, and all 3 are legit teams for an NFCC game next season.....

Cmon Washington,pick him up......

Why not us? He would make our defense elite.

He would....theres no doubt......dont get me wrong,he would be awesome to have, but its gonna come with a price.

I just dont think we should give up that draft capital when we had supposedly drafted a franchise qb and we have no oline.....
Oline is number one priority in my book.....

We need defensive line almost as much as we do offensive line. We're lacking at both DE and DT.

We should be BPA for both lines with our first 3-4 draft picks. If we make a FA signing or do a trade, it should be for interior offensive line/DT/DE.

Watch his effort at the end of the play on the Cooper Dejean pick 6...Maybe we don't want him.

I would rather see them trade 10 to get closer to where its "safe" or "has value" to pick interior offensive linemen. I dont know if we use 10 to draft Campbell when so many think his arms are too short and he will be a pro at guard. Sure seems like the route they are taking are free agents again with no picks able to crack the opening lineup.

DT could go in the first round, but its all based on the scheme. For the past 5 years or so the idea in Chicago is the DT's get no stats, just tie up blockers so the linebackers can eat. Dont really know enough about Allens defense and if he is going to be pounding square pegs on the roster into round holes in his scheme.

Best center is Majors, best NFL fit is probably Wilson from Georgia, plus the only one who has a sub 5 second 40. But will we finally draft a center to play center or go after a guard that should be able to play center again? Pretty sure neither are first round picks, even late.

I’d give the the 10 pick and the 72 pick straight up, then make sure I get some good FA iOL and we still have 2 2nd rounders to bring in oline as well. The browns make it sound like 2 1sts is the starting point though.

I am sure that is the starting point, a first this year and next. You hope to make the playoffs because of the move so the first ends up being in the 25 range next year. But there usually the extra cost of him not wanting to be in the double digit land of top paid DE's so it also requires an extension that ends up eating up your fun money.

He is a special player, but will not change this defense enough to make up for the holes on offense.

Earlier in the thread Tyler Scott was mentioned and we went thru the entire season not learning a damned thing about his ability to be that guy that Caleb cannot overthrow, because we all know the sounds coming for the 10 pick is another receiver. Can a running back make a difference, of course, if your new offensive line coach just allows our hogs to just push people off the line of scrimmage and are not pulling every play wasting time before they get their hands on someone. I dont think we ever got to see a drive last year where the line was just able to push forward without any BS.
