When I say it will consume itself I mean the system will be forced to change. We have rich people thinking they can buy titles for their program. Eventually when they are approached for a million for a specific player they are going to say hey, why have the last 3 I gave you money for never done anything and aren’t even here anymore? Contracts are needed and they will come. Espn is losing hundreds of millions of dollars, so much that they have gotten rid of a lot of real talent. The entire college football system will reset at some point, economics will demand it.
Yeah, a couple of years in and it's pretty clear that, at the least, there need to be changes to the transfer portal and NIL.
At the very least, they need to not open the portal until after bowl season. Also, I read something the other day that mentioned that there are a lot of players who enter the portal and no one picks them...what happens to those players? We hear about top players who enter the portal and who got signed by who, but we don't hear about the other side.
Some of the NIL stuff will self-correct. As you mentioned, there will be a point where those providing the money are going to start getting annoyed when they are paying players who don't develop or leave.
Also, NIL is supposed to be separate from the school, but we've already had coaches making appeals through the press for their alumni to increase NIL money.
