Because ESPN loves them some SEC and I do believe the voters have a bias toward previous seasons (even though not ESPN workers) and results, which they shouldn't.
ESPN "loves" them because....they make more money with them

Absolutely....I'd even give us a chance if we could just get the guys back who have been hurt but not yet ruled out for season.....like Ward, Thornhill and all the OLman.
looks like Pocic will be back. Not sure on Bitonio- i might even err on the side of caution and sit him out. Harris can play guard and is not a bad player.....Dunn did a mediocre-not very good job- but considering the circumstances he could have been worse.

When I say it will consume itself I mean the system will be forced to change. We have rich people thinking they can buy titles for their program. Eventually when they are approached for a million for a specific player they are going to say hey, why have the last 3 I gave you money for never done anything and aren’t even here anymore? Contracts are needed and they will come. Espn is losing hundreds of millions of dollars, so much that they have gotten rid of a lot of real talent. The entire college football system will reset at some point, economics will demand it.
Can you even be so sure ESPN losing so much is that much due to CFB? I'm sure some is but a number of stations are losing a ton of money. Guessing a lot of it is due to streaming services. It's only a guess they'd have lost $150 mil if they took FSU over Bama.

Yeah I think we're agreeing it will eventually just be a professional league with college team names

ESPN is losing so much because of the rights deals they are tied into for a while- but once they are up- the market will reset those

obviously they paid too much for the rights deals- cord cutting etc. has def. cut into revenue in that way--- but I would think it would reset once the rights deals are concluded and renegotiated for less

right now my Guardians are knee deep in shit because their broadcaster- Diamond Sports- through Bally- is defaulting on the contract and leaving them in limbo

again...their money is already in and has been agreed upon for years to come. No matter who made or makes the CFP.

You think they would not have done OK had they bumped up OSU into the CFP? why would they take MSU over a worthy OSU a while back as they could have justified it with "better team" excuse?

right- once the current contracts are concluded- they will be reset more towards market value - so it is a hit in the short/medium turn but i would think it would tend back to market once those deals are up.

If Bitonio can be cleared medically I'd play him. That said, I'm sure they will show caution before clearing him.

as to last comment, there are some other teams in the exact same predicament who will not be spending near the bottom of all teams (I believe atlanta and Texas among them).

Yup the Thunder have already announced this is the last year for Bally, next year someone else will have the local rights. I’m lucky to still have Bally sports through Uverse, people are having hell with the app freezing up every game. Hopefully next year someone better takes it over.

so dumb---- college players bring so little value - the value is, and always has been with the institutions/universities
@msgkings322 my point on this is p retty simple

the G-League team- I think Ignite- had Kuminga- and another very high lotto pick a few years ago on the team. They easily had more talent than anyone in college basketball.

Easily.

They made less money than a middling college basketball program.

Why? Because talent is not the main driver of revenue.

The main driver of revenue in college sports is the institution- a huge built in fan base. Decades- in some cases over a 100 years of marketing- Alumni Groups- rivalries.

If every single college football team did not have 1 scholarship player- and there was a "minor leagues" guys could go to- that had WAAAY more talent than college football overall- everyone would still watch college football.

My cousin who went to OSU- she got up, went to the games- kegs and eggs. etc......bought a jersey- she did not do it beause she knew who the 5 star lineman was. She went for the experience- the camaraderie, etc.....if the team was not as talented- attedance and revenue would fall- but by how much?

Not nearly as much as one would think.

the value is all with the universities and what has been built up over decades- not with individual athletes that already get a scholarship, free living - free food- free tutors- free medical care- amazing coaching- a platform to jump to the pro's- tutors, a stipend, etc....

I know all this, I keep saying they will keep the college names and stadiums and colors and history and rivalries. But the players will all be paid, degrees will be optional for players who know they won't be going to the NFL, and most importantly (I hope) the CFB teams will be their own entity completely separate from college conferences so the other sports can go back to regional groupings.

I suspect some lower tier schools in the smaller conferences will not participate, maybe football will become like it used to be in those schools (Holy Cross and Harvard and San Jose State etc) and be back to just students who play football for fun.

its how it should be anyway- get rid of NIL altogether - its stupid. I would let football teams be separate from the rest of the athletic department so UCLA's softball teams is not flying to Rutgers for a game- dumb.

College athletes get so many benefits. The one thing I think makes sense is insurance coverage for stars that if they get hurt in college- at least get paid something if they cant make it to the pros- hell- nowadays the stars get drafted in the first round anyway even with a big time injury.

Yes this makes sense too. I feel like that's where things end up, separate pro league for the big names maybe 64 schools, the rest it's just one of the sports. And back to regional conferences for everything else.
