all true...situation would be more dire if he was entering the final season of deal (in getting to a "Dak situation"). your last comment might be why a deal has not been reached yet. Takes both sides.

Yeah, and to be completely fair to the situation, there isn't anything that I've read or heard that would indicate that Baker is unhappy with the situation or pressuring the Browns to get anything done.

For all any of us know, he may already be willing to take a little less to help the team.

Maybe he figures that if he balls out and the Browns make a run in the playoffs, his endorsement opportunities will explode, making how much he can get from the Browns less important to him?

Only seems to be one guy here who really thinks the Browns have screwed the pooch on this. Not sure why.....well, other than what his team went through.

How much does Browns think Baker should get yearly in his new deal?

Not sure, which is why I don't understand why tlance is criticizing the fact they have waited so far. We also don't know what Baker wants.

Why would the fans know that? I'm sure Baker's team have a number in mind and same for the Browns front office

Yea...Baker taking 30 or 35 instead of 40 to 45 could mean you have one more pro bowl ish talent blocking for ya

More reasons why the Browns should try and get it done before Lamar gets his deal. Not sure if he going to settle for 30-35 if he see Lamar get 45

O-line wide receiver upgrades (or keeping what they've got) seems to be why some of the older guys re-structure contracts and/or take less. If he's figured that out early...it's good for both him and the Browns.

Possible only way it gets done now, though, is if they offer 40-45 mil. Have a feeling if he was willing to settle for 30-35 mil it would have been done long ago. Just my opinion, though.

It's be great if he took less than he could get, but cannot blame if he he does not want to and certainly the NFLPA does not want a QB to take less in his first big deal.

You'd be saying it was the right move to sign him early even if he regressed or even flamed out? Stop it. Never mind you continue to ignore one simple fact......you don't know what has been offered by either side.

I get you are going by your own team's history and how it played out with Cousins, but maybe Berry/Dipo have a better handle on things than Snyder?

FYI, none of this is to say don't sign him or they shouldn't have gotten it done sooner....but you cannot make a guy sign.

Yes.

Like I said, it is a risk either way.

And if he sucks, the Browns are screwed either way.

So why not bet on the player?

In non Cleveland news, I saw Cheap Trick live last night for the first time. Somehow over the years I had missed them. Always heard they were great live but it was awesome.

Because if he sucks AND you pay him a ton that is even worse....never mind you keep ignoring Baker has to want to sign, too.

Good point. Hadn't thought of the NFLPA. They definitely would not want him taking any less than every penny he can get.

I mean, you said they made a mistake not signing him so, yeah, you kind of did.

The reports are that there have been no substantive negotiations on extension. Which implies both sides are content to let it play out.

IMO, yes, it is a mistake for the Browns not to push for an extension.

We can keep going around in circles if you want.

Bottom line, the Browns will be irrelevant if Baker sucks.

So might as well gamble and get him under contract early.

That is all I am saying.
