Your sample size is one year? Sure, he had a better year last year but how about the previous 3. Carr was better and that isn't saying much bc I don't think Carr is a world beater.

The Giants fucked up declining his 5th year option. They would have one more season with him at $22M I believe. Daniel Jones isn't worth $45M/year on a long-term deal.

New regime and system. They declined that option way back in April before seeing him in their system, and the decision made sense at the time. He did enough to be brought back, and now they have to weigh their options. I doubt Carr or Rodgers are going to the Giants without an overpay (either via contract or trade value). Giants have $43M in cap space for 2023.

Median QBs will continue to be overpaid every year. Demand is greater than the supply. For the 2023 crop, Lamar is going to be $50M+. Carr has multiple suitors already. The others are Jones, Jimmy G, and Geno (who I doubt is going anywhere) before you hit the backup tier.

The below article projects Jones to get up to $35M per, virtually the same range as Carr.

I'm sure that's not the issue McShay was referring to lol. McShay referred to locker room issues, likely had a source?

However, is that a violation of usage of scholarship money? Not sure how close they regulate that.

Carr is 31. I wouldn't say that is old for a QB if we are talking about the next 3-4 years.
And yes that could be true but a lot of guys had coaching turnover, it goes hand in hand with an unsuccessful franchise. The main point is I don't think he is worth $45M and I do understand the QB salaries are crazy and inflated but I am not paying him $45M on a long-term deal.

The Giants put themselves in a corner. They didn't pick up his 5th year option and now they have no backup option. They could sign a FA QB but I think picking up his option gives you more flexibility. The Browns might be fucked if Watson isn't the guy they thought he was but they still made the right choice picking up Baker's option and not giving him a long-term deal. Baker had two years better than Jones' two best years.
That’s fair. All I was saying is that everyone is laughing at his ask for 45 million. It’s really not that far off. I can understand why a person would be hesitant to commit to him long term. I’m glad I’m not the Giants and I don’t have to make the decision.

Unless they're trading up in the draft, their other options aren't great. Carr and Geno have their risks too if even available to the Giants. After that, a bunch of backups. Just keep the guaranteed money down and the years within reason.

It depends on who he is as a QB going forward. He’s gonna have to be tremendous to account for the impact on the roster from having a handful of players account for 60% of their cap.

He could be one of the best QB's in the NFL next season but he'd still be one of the worst people, if not the wrost, in the league.

I don't even understand what happened

this sounds like a totally different story now

I recall an espn article saying it was in a parking lot and the other car shot first....now it seems like the location and other details are completely different

Is Miles any relation to the former Clipper?

If I could use hindsight and undo the Watson deal and take any of those 3 I wouldn't.
Results would've been essentially the same with a lot more draft capital in your pocket to move forward (and a lot less pot-stirring).

No doubt.

Saying you'd take Jones over Carr is pretty wild.

He was awful. It made no sense to guarantee him that money

Yeah I am confused on the whole story, not that I have been paying much attention to it honestly. I just wonder how far police went with Miller until they said he wasn't a suspect. I mean all that sounds like he was there idk

Yep. Even with the improvement this year he has more TO's than TD's. Now the Giants could be pretty screwed though. So you give Jones too much money imo or you just start over. It's fine if they can get Rodgers short-term, even Carr imo but now you go into starting a new QB, most likely a bridge QB. Either way imo they should not pay Jones.
