Vin and Chick.

2 Los Angeles announcing legends in Heaven together.

I feel lucky that growing up in SoCal, I got to hear Vin Scully call Dodgers games, Chick Hearn call Lakers games and Dick Enberg call Rams games.

For having zero farm, like one of the worst farms in baseball, the Phil’s and Dombrowski did great today! They get a bull pen arm in Dave Robertson. They fill a hole in CF with Marsh who can play every day there. He’s not a great bat but he provides great outfield defense. With Schwarber in LF and Castellanos in RF you need a CF that is a plus defender. I read that he’s so good defensively that the Angels had kicked around the idea of moving Trout to a corner outfield spot so he could play CF. And most importantly they got another starting pitcher in Syndegaard. He’s not what he was. But he slots nicely as a 3rd or 4th starter. This keeps them out of throwing bull pen games like they’ve been doing since Eflin went down. Come playoffs, you don’t need 5 starters. This sends Ranger Suarez back to the pen when things get important and the Phil’s are also essentially adding a LH arm to that pen.

Not sexy like Soto but a hell of job by Dombrowski considering they have one of the worst farms in baseball currently. Very pleased.

The Padres really through all caution to the wind and went all in, trading away most of their farm system. Could pay off, could really hurt long term.

I grew up in NY and still heard Vin all the time, notably on Saturday afternoon games (I want to say on Fox). The man's voice would simply put you at ease and draw you in without all the histrionics and catch phrases of modern broadcasting. Weaving stories in between pitches, the man was a master lol.

And he always knew when it was time to stop talking and let the sound of the crowd do the talking.

They got a nasty lineup but in the end, the Dodgers are still in their division and superior imo. Doesn’t mean they can’t beat them but anticipating they only have him for 2 years they need a WS title for all these moves to pay off. A lot of competition with the Cards, Mets, Braves and Dodgers.

right- she had to- she was bound to use whatever definition they came up with. She had no say in the definition.
Nor should she as an arbitrator and 3rd party participant. That didn’t stop her from drawing her own dividing line between sexual assaults with a non-violent/violent designation. One could argue that every sexual assault constitutes violence regardless of any physical contact taking place.

Yep. The NL seems pretty strong at the top. I think the Mets are doing it with mirrors. Would not be surprised to see their bats come up small in the playoffs. The Braves and Dodgers are for real and very deep. The Cards seem to have a two man lineup between Goldschmidt and Arenada. But after that a lot of meh.

thats precisely what arbiters do the majority of the time.

Basically, if it doesn't happen for them in the next couple of seasons, they are going to have to become sellers and start moving some of those players to replenish their farm.

“Facts” are on my side in this case as both I and the NFL believe that Watson violated their code of conduct. Robinson agreed with me and the NFL. The “facts” have little to do with what I’ve actually criticized.

Objection over ruled. Take another swing Rain Man…uh oh…fart.
If Robinson agreed with you, he'd have been given a year suspension or longer but he wasn't. Try again kid.

Violence then needs to be better defined and tiered. You can see where this disappears down the rabbit hole. Violence in the historic connotation of forcible contact with intent for bodily harm doesn't apply. Legal definitions of such terms are often lost in these discussions.

Arbiters create the contract language?
I have to say, I have never seen or heard of a situation where one side brings a violation they do not have a definition for, is able to make up the definition during the hearing, and the hearing officer is bound by whatever their definition is that has been made up on the spot.

usually if there is a policy and it is broad or vague the hearing officer will interpret it--- not the side that wrote it since its obviously self-serving.

I think this is where she freewheels a little.

I think that since the NFL did not have a definition in any kind of handbook, or any kind of written policy at all, and offered a vague definition in the hearing that the hearing officer herself said was not great in scope- she was forced to bring some clarity and make some determinations and interpret past rulings and precedent and try and make some sense out of them.

I think that what is happening shows just how badly the NFL has handled these types of issues. Hopefully, they will learn from this and actually change things.

Sadly, I'll be a bit surprised if they actually do.
