I cannot believe the Cubs did not trade Contreras. Hes not young. HE is not good defensively. They are miles from competing.

The Cubs have so much money but are such a dumpster fire.

The Reds and Pirates are going to be much better very very soon.

They are going to be at or near the basement of their very weak division for a long time.

Pirates especially have some very interesting players coming up soon- and Reds did a wonderful job of adding players at the deadline and had some very good young guys of their own. Both teams are turning over nicely.

I heard they value him highly so they wanted a great return, now since he was not traded they might extend him. Still a really good player to be more of a veteran during their rebuild

Soto deal is just mind blowing in so many ways

A. That he was dealt at all. One of the best young players in MLB history

B. That the Padres add him to Tatis and Machado

C. The haul is probably the biggest at the time haul of young players in MLB history:

i. McKenzie Gore- not too long ago was the best pitching prospect in baseball. His outlook has dimmed- but he was very good this year until he started having injury issues;

ii. Abrams- one of the better SS prospects in baseball- though his star has dimmed a little...if I am not mistaken- he is near a top 20 guy in the minors, but his hittting outlook and fielding has not progressed aand even regressed a little

iii. Woods- a very solid high ceiling- high floor prospect- unlikely to fail with star potential- Keith Law had him as a top 20 prospect with his midseason rankings.

iv. Hassell- he is 6' 7" and raking in the minors and super young---- guys this tall almost always fail because of strike zone concerns- butt Richi Sexson did become a masher- its not impossible- big time lotto toickket.

v. Susanna is 18 and throws 100....lotto ticket with high potential

Padres just ravaged their minor leagues---- their high and low minors. They still have a couple guys- they didnt give up their #2 prospect acording to Fangraphs- ( think they gave up 4 of their top 5 and #8)

I read that a lot of teams were not thrilled with his defense......

ITs just - they are so far away.....and hes not young and catchers wear out.....its kinda crazy to me. But we shall see.

I just look at the Cubs roster and there is not one guy that stands out. Their best players are Happ and Conteras and neither are guys you come close to building around.

and the judge even said--- they are perfectly welcome to institute harsher penalties then they ever have before- as long as its noticed. They just cant fly by the seat of their pants. You cant all of a sudden sentence someone to prison for a year for stealing a toothbrush without it being noticed.
This isn’t prison. The analogy doesn’t work. But what you and TF12 have said makes sense.

what the opinion basically said is you cannot out of the blue drastically increase penalties without notice. ESPECIALLY when what is proscribed conduct is not even put down in writing anywhere and you just make up the definitions at a hearing.
Based on your own posts it sounds like she did allow them to make up a definition at the hearings.

James Washington hurt. Gonna miss 6-10 weeks.

Gallup hurt and will miss the early portion of the season.

And Amari Cooper is on the Browns. Bet Dallas wishes they hadn't traded him now.

Vin was amazing and very humble.

Met him several times when I worked at the Glendale News-Press. First time I was getting some food at the pregame meal and he surprised me by saying, "I don't believe I have had the pleasure of meeting you before, young man." Talk about being speechless.

Regardless, I think the Dak Cooper relationship was damaged. Not sure they could have brought him back.

Dallas had to do it, they're banking on CeeDee Lambda as their no. 1 WR. The cap forces teams to let go of quality players, especially with Dak's contract now on the books. I'm sure Dallas would've loved to have both, but that's life with the NFL.
