To the 8-9 9-8 division winner the existence of the division is the only reason they’re in the playoffs in the first place. They were able to play 6 football games vs medicore to bad football teams.

Can’t do it. You know this. The entire NFC East is composed of rivalry games. But the AFC South doesn’t have any rivalries. The divisions make for good scheduling that can be easily rotated

In the sense division winners still make playoffs cannot be considered meaningless. Also seems like for most part divisions can go in cycles of being tough or weak so my preference would be leave them as is with the switch they are talking about.
