"Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com first reported Upshaw's deal. The deal has a partial guarantee for year one and year two is not guaranteed.

The undrafted Upshaw matched up with Towns most of the time that he was in the game. In the second half, he was able to disturb a turnaround jumper by Towns and then block another shot which drew murmurs from the Laker-friendly crowd at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Overall, Upshaw played 12 minutes, scored 2 points on just 1 shot from the field, 1 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. He did have 6 fouls. In comparison, Towns had 9. Yes, 9. In Summer League you have up to 10."

I really hope Upshaw is the primary backup and we develop him and release Sacre or use him as an emergency player/12th man.

Well if this is another desparate signing - I like it - young, athletic and talented.

Bulls signing Aaron Brooks. Due to salary cap restrictions, they didn't have any other PG option.

I wouldn't consider Hibbert a desperate acquisition. If they had signed him to a long extension for a considerable amount of money, then I'd say that was desperation.

The way this works is the signing of the contract can be an act of desperation for the team/org or the player, but can also include trades made after failing to get the desired player. For example:

Rajon Rondo signed with the Sacramento Clippers. For a player that was once a decent Celtics team that won championships - That was a desparate move on his part. That is rock bottom for him to sign with Kings

I am on the fence but kind of think that the Lakers trade for Hibbert was a desparate move, but one that could have nice rewards.

The Mavericks trade for Zaza Pachulia was a desparate move

The Clippers signing of Jordan was a desparate move - they really did need him

Those are the ones I can think of so far

:urbs:

Just messing with ya

DAJ back to LA wasnt desperate. Maybe the process of how they did it was desperate, but that was more on DAJ. It was a smart move to get him back, bc without him they arent contenders.

Personally after seeing him perform the last few years - I wouldn't give that - but hey if you like him - good luck with that

It was a minimum deal for a guy that will get limited minutes off the bench. It is a win-win for the Heat. He is either productive for cheap, or he doesnt workout for cheap. Whether he is productive or not, he can still rebound and an athletic big.

Never thought I'd see the day when signing a guy to a minimum contract was a sign of desperation.

I think the most desperate signing thus far has been Robin Lopez to a contract over 50 million dollars to play for the Knicks.

Lopez is a decent big man who last year played less than 28 minutes a game- and got less than 10 points a game and less than 7 rebounds a game. I don't think there is a single thing he does on an elite level- and he is probably closer to a 3rd tier center than a 2nd tier center. To me- this was the most desperate signing off the offseason thus far- but we shall see going forward

DeMarre Carroll getting 4 years 60 million from the Raptors comes off as rather desperate as well if you ask me---- but I will say- SF is a HARD spot to fill in today's NBA.
