The way this works is the signing of the contract can be an act of desperation for the team/org or the player, but can also include trades made after failing to get the desired player. For example:

Rajon Rondo signed with the Sacramento Clippers. For a player that was once a decent Celtics team that won championships - That was a desparate move on his part. That is rock bottom for him to sign with Kings

I am on the fence but kind of think that the Lakers trade for Hibbert was a desparate move, but one that could have nice rewards.

The Mavericks trade for Zaza Pachulia was a desparate move

The Clippers signing of Jordan was a desparate move - they really did need him

Those are the ones I can think of so far

The Mavs trade was a good trade.

I wouldn't call the Clippere re-signing DeAndre desperate either.

Lakers trading for Hibbert and Knicks signing Lopez comes to mind.....also Portland max offer sheet to Kanter

Which reminds me what the hell was the Heat thinking when they signed Stoudemire?:L

The reason the Mavs signed Zaza is because they didn't get Jordan - so they went and traded for him ASAP - It might work out, but it was spur of the moment act of desperation

Hibbert is in the same category and I agree for the most part, but both the Mavs and Lakers trade have the potential to play out good.

Lopez - definitely full blown desparate

Kanter - they paid him way to much, so I agree there

The Clippers re-signing Jordan was desparate - without him the move back and lose a lot of ground. They would have done anything to keep him. He's a good player, too, so the player doesn't have to be shitty for the team to be desparate to get him. If the Lakers had got Aldridge - that would have been a desparate move.

1 yr veterans minimum for a guy who avg 11 ppg off the bench is desperate? Wow
Personally after seeing him perform the last few years - I wouldn't give that - but hey if you like him - good luck with that

People are fools if they wouldn't take STAT on a 1 year vet minimum deal.

Come on now, who wouldn't take 11 & 5 for league minimum. There are guys who average around that making $7-10 mil a season.

And to add to that, he is almost averaging Hibbert's numbers minus the def for 1/18 the salary.

"The Mavericks trade for Zaza Pachulia was a desparate move."

Yep, journeyman center who is over-paid at 5.3 million per.

Williams to Pachulia doesn't have a very good ring to it, does it?

I was trying to say that on the FA thread. Beengay was saying how horrible he is.

He averaged 13ppg in the last 7 reg season games. In just 17mpg.

And he even played well in the playoffs for the Mavs.

He isn't a game changing player anymore, but he can be a very good bench big who can score. He can still hit the jumper. Pick & pop all day.

All Hibbert has to do is rebound and play defense. Didn't like it at the time but I do now.

Kobe (for as many games as he plays), Clarkson, Russell and Randle will do the bulk of the scoring.

No doubt. He is good for 18-20mpg off the bench as a backup PF and C.

No, but Devon Harris to Dirk, Chandler or Wesley does.

If we hadn't got Hibbert.....I would have wanted the Lakers to bring in Stoudemire and platoon him and Upshaw at C.
