You cant just take stats away when it suits your argument..and as others had said at the time Cleveland had every reason to stop Benson only down by 3 points...it's what they call 'crunch time'. Wasnt like the game was over.

I'm not throwing any stats away. I'm just saying for the first 57 min of that game he was pretty damn inaffective. That and he is a 1 trick pony.

It wasn't anything Benson did. It wasn't some great run. My 5 year old daughter could have scored through that hole. All he had to do was not trip over his own feet, or, you know, stop to punch somebody mid-play.

When you figure out the difference between a QB and a RB, WR, etc, then come talk to me.

Apples and oranges.

In case you forgot. The offense SUCKED. Who gives a shit if they won. Or if they played their asses off. They still SUCKED. I want wins, not just effort.

I am speaking about players who have been on this team, and have NOT wanted to, and voiced it LOUDLY.... the position they played does not matter. they have been cancers, every one of them... in any sport, on any team, it just is not a good thing for a team to have someone play who does not want to be there..... once you figure this out, then come talk to me....

OK you convinced me. I guess thats why Bensons numbers are usually pedestrian, he rarely gets a long run.

I honestly can't believe anyone sees anything in this turd.

good news is if he kicks ass next week, I won't have to start a new thread to eat crow on!

I am just saying, he had a good game. They were stackign the box pretty well yesterday, Benson ran well considering 85% of his runs were off Whitworth's side of teh line. If it was a run, teh Browns basically knew where it was going.

He is not a quick ellusive back like Johnson or Peterson. He is a mauler. He sticks his head down, and he blasts through. There were multiple times yesterday he was strugglign to break tackles just to get to the line of scrimmage. When they gave him any room he did great. That 50 yard run was in a crucial point of the game, it was huge for us.

I never said I like Benson as a person, but as a player, he is the best we have on our roster, as I think Leonard can be decent for a few games in a row, but will get dinged and wore down too quick. That uis not his game. Scott can be awesome, but probably in short bursts. He burns up too quick, kinda like a shooting star. Benson is what we have, like it, hate it, leave it.

yep.... sorry people, Ced had a good game and saying he didn't just won't make it so lol.... Brian Leonard cannot be our feature back, he will get banged up, but I would also be among those that would like to see him get more carries.....

How we do with Ced the feature back..... and getting his yards:

Cedric Benson upped his franchise-best ratio with his 14th 100-yard game in his 41st appearance as a Bengal. The Bengals are now 11-3 when he gets 100 and 11-1 when he carries it 25 times.

with the exception of just electrifying talents like Barry sanders and AP aren't most NFL RB's a product of their O-line and offense? Honestly, how many TD runs do you see where a guy breaks like 5 tackles and then takes it to the house? Most TD runs are set up by the OC and execution by the O-line. Ced's got a couple things working against him. 1. his o-line is average at best 2. everybody knows he's getting the ball.

I bet if you look at most RB's stats from yesterday if you 'omit' thier biggest gain on the ground their day's statistically at least look pretty ineffective. Also, stats dont show the control of the clock, not turning the ball over and just the toll taken on the D-line and defense in general. Good game by Ced.

I thought my prediction of 35-13 for the Browns was going to come true in the 3rd quarter. By the end of the quarter my buddy who is a Browns fan was telling me "I'm nervous, I don't like the Bengals sticking around like this with Ced pushing the pile forward a few yards at a time". Then boom, a few big plays later and the Browns are out of reach. I was completely wrong after looking like I might be completely right.

I thought Ced was great as a work horse yesterday. Scott looked pretty awful, but better him to take a few shots than Brian Leonard, who is a little injury prone due to his style of attack, or Ced, who we desperately need healthy to make it out of this season alive.

Gradkowski was a good game manager, but let's not fool ourselves and say he was good by any stretch of the imagination. After his first few series in the 3rd I'm pretty sure every Bengals fans thought we were SOL. Dalton surprised me and was making some big league throws, but I imagine the Bengals won't rush him back and risk him being anything less than 100%.

The defense looked good, minus Leon getting burnt on a few plays. Most of the game he was pretty good but he still shows he's not a lockdown corner, just a really good one. Our new comers (Nelson, Clements) came in and made an immediate impact so that was encouraging to see.

pretty good analysis. and that's one thing that bothers me that you mentioned, we DO need Ced to stay healthy. When he gets those carries, we win bottom line.... doesn't matter if its pretty, ugly, lucky, avoiding tripping over his own feet, it does not matter to me. I want the win, and when we give it go Ced 25 times, we win.

Agree with Trin's assesment. As a Bengals fan there was a lot more to be happy about than to bitch about. I was impressed with Dalton when he was in the game. Overall, the D played well and seem like they have the talent to play better. Most of all these are the games that the BEngals typically find a way to lose in ridiculous fashion. Yesterday, they let the Browns take care of that. Overall, they didnt make the killer mistake and played a pretty solid game.

I haven't read the rest of the thread, but to reply anyways...

It was clearly a unique situation. It was one stop for the Browns or go home. For the Bengals, it was 4 yards or nothing.

The Browns overloaded the right side, had no safeties back, and essentially threw up a hail mary. It failed. Benson was average at best yesterday (let me know if you disagree), but if you look at his over-inflated stats, he was anything but average. So, to me, that was nothing but empty stats. I'll give him his 4 yards and assess his impact on that.

And that is the point. History will not discount those 39 yards and TD. But to the point of assessing his game, that run means nothing.

Kind of like a hail-mary interception at the end of a first half. Kind of like Kerry Collins stats that he "accumulated" in the 2nd half down 0-34 while the Texans were in a prevent. They're empty.

I don't recall a single play where Leon was burnt. All those plays you see him at the edge of the screen with a receiver WIDE open, he was trying to recover for someone elses screw up.

Since Palmer hasn't voiced it LOUDLY, I guess that excludes him. LOL @ your silliness.

And you are an idiot if you don't think the offense would take Palmer back with open arms. They understand the business side of it and also know Palmer gives them the best chance to win.

Boomer stuck around for a year without incident, as did Dillon and Chad. I wouldn't call Boomer or Dillon cancers. Nor would I call Chad a cancer, but that's debateable. However, few would call him a cancer for wanting out, but rather his other antics.

A RB can not run at full speed. A WR can run lazy routes (Moss last year), not give himself up for the betterment of the team (TO and his alligator arms). However, the QB has the ball in his hands. If he doesn't find someone, he's going to get killed by the defense. And if he's going to pass the ball, he's going to do his damn best to get a completion (you won't find a case in history suggesting otherwise). And the QB's o-line will block for him like they would block for anyone else. Their jobs and team victories depend on it.

If you still don't get it, you never will.

History would say that Ced is a productive running back that has not been served well by 1). lack of a good O-line 2). Predictable play calling and 3). lack of a passing game. Despite those things he's produced. He's put up over 1000 yards in each of his full seasons with the bengals which seems to be the Benchmark for RB's. What history are you refering to? and what does Kerry collins have to do with anything?

I suggest re-reading my post. You missed the entire point. In everything. In referencing history and evidently with the Kerry Collins reference as well.

I had a huge argument about this with a moron on Twitter. The guy went on and on about how Mike Brown was absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, right in not trading Carson. That Carson was a bitch and a quitter, and how Benson, and Whitworth and another player all called Palmer a quitter. He said Carson signed a contract, and therefore, he was Mike Brown's bitch, and to quit was unforgivable. He said I needed to learn to read the CBA, that the CBA said Mike Brown could force Palmer to retire, therefore MB was right, and he was right, and then made a comment on how he could send me a copy of the CBA if I wanted to read it, at which point, I blocked him. I'm just astounded by this sort of reasoning by Bengals fans. Fans of other teams, and I heard from several from footballpros, laugh that Bengals fans feel this way. It's idiotic.

Ced has also not been served well by 1) low ypc and 2) a propensity for fumbling.....two years ago he had a good season, by any measuring stick....last year he did not.....1000+ yards or no......this year the pressure is on him, moreso because he's proven over and over he's a dickhead off the field......he's off to a good start, but we'll see how it goes.....

The same people themselves wanted Palmer gone a year earlier. But since it wasn't on their - or their favorite team's - terms, I guess they feel butt hurt or something.

And who the hell argues on twitter? Can't you only type like 160 characters or something?

Not only is he a dickhead off the field, but he is on as well. He spent the good part of the last 2 seasons bitching about not getting touches and how the offense should go through him. Who gives a shit about the good of the team. And apparently there was one play yesterday where he was going off on Dalton for calling the wrong audible. He's just an ass. He's got an over-inflated view of his abilities. He's just not very good.
