A little too much Sewald these days. The guy pitched 5 games last year and 17 the year before. This is his 50th game this year. Fatigue has to be setting in.

Agreed .... I did not know the actual numbers, but sure did notice him on the bump quite often

Avoided the sweep!! Big win! Feels like this is a series they should’ve won though.

Just an additional stat: He has pitched 25.2 innings in 2019 & 2020 combined and now 51 innings in 2021. That is a big jump for a reliever.

50 games, 51 IP... with about a month of baseball left to play. His career high was 57 games but he has not pitched more than 20 innings last couple years. Pretty sure fatigue is setting in. Servais riding him hard this year.

well..sewald is a good pitcher...but sometimes..ya have to go inside..if ya pitch....top corner away...6 or 8 times....heck guys going to take ya deep...
but ya wait..till the count is...3-2...and........ stunn ...him inside.....that is ...........set him up..................blow him down with a ..get ya got ya .....on the inside

..where he may hit a HR as well..but at least ya try it....

Pitchers MUST establish early they WILL bust you inside at random.

This keeps the hitters honest ( and a little tentative ) to lunge into every pitch with zero regard taking one off the forearm or side of their melon.

I have always said ... any pitchers BEST pitch is his 2nd inside fastball on the hitters hands / jamming him up, just so he didn't think the 1st one was an accident.

Very few power hitters can barrell up an inside fastball and hit it anywhere but pulled for a long foul / strike or a weak hit off the trademark that is an easy play for defenders.

I think they have unlocked something with him that i hope is sustainable going forward but yeah i can imagine fatigue is a problem at this point

From a strictly baseball perspective he wasnt scheduled to pitch this weekend anyway.

I agree. He isn't blowing batters away with high 90's he is pitching them to death. That to me is more sustainable. I just hope they cut back on his use some lasts the year. The guy is making less than half of Giles for the year. Give that man a raise.

Though I am upset still that we missed out on guys like Semien and Brantley, I sure am glad we didn't touch Bauer with a ten foot pole! Yikes!!!
