I have no problem dealing top prospect for studs because you can't get studs just anywhere. Trading them for half a season of Scherzer w/o an extension upon the trade would give me big pause. I definitely would have done it if we had actually had a true offseason with adding talent and all. Since we didn't, I would have probably only traded for controllable stars. Kind of like the Cano signing. Sign him if going for it, great. Signing him and doing nothing else, nothing.I still firmly agree on the blocking part. But if you can flip one of those prospects to add say an ace and fill in the prospects spot with a FA so be it. I would’ve flipped JRod and Kirby for Scherzer and Turner because that is the trade you make with your top guy. Max is old going into next year, but going into camp you have 3 ace ability guys with Gilbert, Hancock and Kirby, along with whatever Brash is going to bring. Maybe Williamson as well, plus the 3 other guys (count remember their names off the top of my head) who will all be vying for a spot or trade bait.
I just don’t see OF as a need at all this off-season. But I also truly hope Jerry doesn’t put Raleigh in the Kelenic and JRod camp of they are penciled in as a stater. They need a C, 2B, 3B and two pitchers, preferably an ace and another guy 6-7 inning guy like Castillo. The chances of a repeat from the bullpen performance is slim but if does it would make the 2022 season the best ever by a pen with adding Munoz and Giles. I liked Toro’s first couple of weeks but is anyone comfortable with him being penciled in at 2B or 3B? Maybe slide him into the Dylan Moore role.

yeah...they at least need to try.......for ray...cuz...even if paxton comes back...he is not ray........the strike out champ this year.....I have no problem dealing top prospect for studs because you can't get studs just anywhere. Trading them for half a season of Scherzer w/o an extension upon the trade would give me big pause. I definitely would have done it if we had actually had a true offseason with adding talent and all. WAR By Position
LF = 28th at .1
CF = 25th at .6
RF = 11th at 2.5
Our only outfield position that produced was RF and he is on his last year. I think the OF with it's huge ability to produce runs by a position needs huge improvement. Maybe that is just one stud LF, but something.
Catcher upgrade would be nice, but not as easy to do and as long as they are good defensively and you build a lineup around them you can live with it. 2B and 3B would probably be either or. I don't see them moving on from Toro and SS and 1B are locked in.
An Ace...Yes please but sounds like Dip is concentrating on offense. And there is zero trust by me when it comes to the pen. How often do veteran RP's come out of nowhere and become year to year studs? Rarely. One year wonders? Happens more than we think.
A guy that fits the mold for me to give up top prospects for would be Devers. No we couldn't get him, but visage, controllable contract and talent is a player type we should shoot for if dealing top prospects.I still firmly agree on the blocking part. But if you can flip one of those prospects to add say an ace and fill in the prospects spot with a FA so be it. I would’ve flipped JRod and Kirby for Scherzer and Turner because that is the trade you make with your top guy.

just showing ..the mariners could trade..for almost,...anyone they..want..right now..if they want them bad enough....oppp got go..A way too early offseason prediction(?) or more like a Dipoto maybeism(?)
A guy I think Dipoto may target in a deal next year could be Cody Bellinger. He got off to a great start his first couple years, then now has greatly been a shadow of himself the last 3 but is still only 25 and under control for two more years.
If Haniger won't extend, time to move him and Dodgers would be a great fit. I could see Haniger for Bellinger and Vargas their #6 prospect.
