I've never seen a team take so many days off while still playing games. It's like they don't even care.
Enjoy this stat because it took me forever to go through the stats (okay maybe 10 minutes).
Rene Rivera (Indians catcher) started his career with us and played 3 years for us with his last being in 2006. He is now 37 (38 at the end of July) and is still the best defensive catcher we have ever had IMO. So I looked up how many catchers we have used since he left in 2006: 37! We have used 37 different catchers at the major league level since he left. I found that a bit shocking.
Oh ya, there are tons of sad, sad stories regarding Mariners and catchers throughout their pathetic history.I think I will just have an icecream cone and think back on the Jesus Montero 'can't miss prospect - greatest pure hitter' we got jammed up our sphincter by the NY Yankees.
I am really surprised he has not surfaced in the WWE as the Fearsome Lard-assio
I know we had Wellington Castillo on our roster for something like 48 hours and then stupidly traded him to someone and then he goes on to be a great hitting catcher and defensive skills also. I believe that was just prior to the Mike Zunino experiment
And then there is always Jason Varitek we shipped off to go become a World champ team leader and likely in BOS hall of fame wall
Actually the ice cream cone was a joke on Montero. I just looked up the real story ( my memory is bad ) It was an icecream sandwich he chucked at a MLB scout in a minor league game after the scout remarked about Monteros 'chubbiness'I remember Rivera. I don't remember why (who or how) he left the M's though. I wonder if the M's rank toward the top (if not at the top) of the list for players who became awesome after leaving the M's organiztion. Seems to me like it happens alot.
PS: Thanks NWinAZ for your 10 minutes........
PPSS: Enjoy your ice cream MBF
