To me, it's gonna be hard to tell where Dallas goes in the draft until we see what they do in FA and resigning their own players. You would think it will be defense early and often, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys take the same approach to FA as last year, signing 4-5 solid if unspectacular players to help the defense, allowing them to go with the best player available in draft, even if that guy is an OL or RB
I also think the Seattle offer to MLynch will make it very difficult for the Cowboys to sign Murray to a longterm deal. I think they may restructure Romo so that they can franchise or transition tag Murray and keep the offense together intact for at least another year
All depends on Dez. No way Dez doesn't get the tag if he doesn't have a deal in place by the tag deadline. If that is so, you can only do either or, not both on franchise/transition. I think Murray deserves to get paid, and will get paid by a team like Jags, or Oakland. Lynch hasn't signed anything yet, so until he does, it's like Murray said all speculation, "we need to see the numbers before talking about it"...in other words, Murray is a wise man, he knows Lynch could get a 10M per average but only have a true value of about 5-6M.
I think Romo and Ty get restructured no matter what. I also hate to see Murray go, but I think he will be gone. You are right about FA, it affects all draft plans for the NFL.
Hey Nets, what's the number if Murray hypothetically gets tagged?
Dez is on record as wanting to stay in Dallas, and Jerry wants him, I would bet that gets done pretty soon, and probably at an insane overall number that can be reworked over the years. The Randle arrest pretty much seals the deal on the Cowboys tagging Murray IMO. Randle will be suspended by the League, if not the Cowboys, and I can't imagine Jerry being this close and going in with a rookie starting RB, though it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Dallas take a back high in the draft
I was on record as saying I wanted to stay living in Houston with the company I'm at; but when the company offered me a substantial amount more to move to Dallas, I relocated lol. Same with Dez, the NFL is the company Cowboys are Houston in this case and another team could be the relocation in this instance. So what do you do to block that if you don't have a contract signed, you tag him. No chances taken. I signed a one year contract to relocate, my heart was to stay in Houston when my last contract with the company expired, and while I wanted to stay in Houston a better opportunity opened for me and my future. As they say shit happens lol.
New CBA is very complicated when it comes to things like this. For instance it all depends on the salary cap, and what it is. Just using the 142M projection his number would be 10.85M, it would be higher or lower depending on if the cap is higher or lower. Each position bases the tag off a percentage the RB tag is 7.643% of the total salary cap.
I thought the tag price came from the average salary of the 5 highest paid players at that position? Interesting Nets.
It will be cool to see how this all works out and where Murray, Suh, JPP all wind up. FA really isn't that far away.
Can't go wrong either way Brother, you'er still in Texas
I was reading the other day that the Cowboys could clear up to $45 million in capo space. Now we all know that doing that would mean pushing money back, which limits what can be done in the future. It will be interesting to see which way the Cowboys go....If Stephen and McClay make the call, I could see Murray leaving, the Cowboys continuing to get their cap in order and building primarily through the draft.....but I don't think that's how it's gonna go....Jerry wants that last ring more than anything in the world, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if Dez is signed longterm, Murray is tagged, and an impact defender or two is signed. I think Jerry won't be able to stop himself from going for it. If they don't, it's a new day in Dallas....
Also depends which tag.
Since it's a rolling average are the %'s updated already to include 2014? I thought we were stilll waiting for that, but maybe it was just the new cap figure thats not yet out.

Used to. Now it's the % of total cap dollars allocated to the positon over the last 5 years. Makes you wonder if it's dropping for RBs the way their salaries seem to be going down lately.
Not pushing much dead money back at all to be honest. The more I think about it, the more logical it seems to restructure Romo. You have a 4 year window to get it done. So if you don't get it done with Romo either way you are screwed lol, so why not go for it?
