The problem isn't that you need your FS to tackle in the box, in this D he is responsible for everything over the top, he is the last man standing if the man gets to him, no help. If you don't have a guy that can tackle you are in deep shit! Rolle is solid, but I'd rather have Wilcox develop or a Rookie then to give him money. Don't think he is enough of an upgrade to justify spending the money he will get.

The roles between FS and SS are blurred in this defense. They are most of the time asked to do the same things which is why for a long while the team was calling Church a FS even though he obviously isn't. IMO the best thing we could do if we found a true centerfielder is to play Church/Wilcox in the box more (like a traditional SS would) and allow the FS to play a more traditional role as well, but Dallas hasn't done that in the last two years.

I think Dallas plays big money free agents for their own, (20M type guaranties $$) and play a little in the mid-range type guys from other teams. Dallas kept a whole bunch of D-linemen they liked from last year. For once....I think the draft is what their thinking for impact players to add.

Totally agree. We have a lot of our own to resign. We did NOTHING according to everyone in FA last year other than Melton, but it turns out we made some pretty smart (Mincey) moves afterall. I was arguing with everyone last year that said we had no DL depth because we had a shitload of DL depth IMO. What we didn't have was top of the depth chart studs and we aren't signing one of those this year either IMO. Maybe we luck out in the draft or with a bargain type deal and get one anyway. Heck, maybe we feel Melton will be healthier and better this year and resign him (doubt it) for less, but I don't see any splashy signings other than Dez and IMO Murray too.

Couple of players away- I just think JJ goes for it. I don't think you can rely on the draft to get you over the top.

health remains the biggest key of all to improving on last season

Well we will be adding Lee and Claiborne back in the mix. 2 starting players, that were both replaced fairly well so I think we were pretty lucky as far as injuries last year. We lost Durant and Free too, I know. A healthy Lee will be like adding a top notch FA, IMO. I still don't know what to think of Claiborne but I don't want to give up on him because good CBs are hard to find.

Health truly is key I agree, and we are getting two players back, BUT I believe we are still a good pass rusher or two and a S away from doing what we need to do. EVERYONE that is a title contender will likely get better, and our Division will get tougher. Chip will add a QB, and that team will grow, Victor Cruz will be healthy again and they will be scary good with those 3 weapons next year. We need help on D, and to me I'd rather go all in then wait and pray we can make it by doing as little as possible. There are several FA's that we can get that won't kill us but that will help us, and I'd love to continue the youth movement, but one place I would love to see us improve is the FS role, I am tired of seeing two SS play at once, I would love to see us play more cover three IF we get that true FS and improve the pass rush. Just my thoughts, either way I support the growth of this team, and love the hope we all have for next season, and the present future.

I honestly don't know which way we will go truth be told. I honestly think we pick up on big player on the market, that's just my gut telling me Jerry wants a ring, and will do what he needs to do or should I say he feels he needs to do this offseason to get it. Only time will tell, actually in one month we will know lol.

I'm not mortgaging my future on $15M per to a guy like Suh that can implode at any moment. So in theory I take the two players if I'm picking one or the other, but I'm not as high on McCourty as you guys are and not giving him that deal myself. I like the direction we are headed in and while I don't overpay for a RB in general I see Murray as much more valuable to our team than McCourty.

I love Murray because of the MAN he is, not because of the player he is, I think players can be replaced, but the "right kind of guy" that is something that is hard to find.

I hate the idea of bringing in any kind of baggage player especially one that will then put a major dent in our wallets as well. Not to mention I can't stand the guy.

But in my eye's, if we lost Dez or Murray and gained Suh, I have no trouble saying we would be a better team. The offense would not suffer nearly as much as the defense would gain.

He would single handily change the dynamic of the defense.

Yeah, but I'm not sure going from a "we" defense to a "me" defense is the route we want to go. Last year the whole was much greater than the sum of its parts. That has been the opposite case in Detroit for most of Suh's time there

Lee staying healthy would be a great, if he could put together a full season, his league wide respect would be elevated the way that Murray's has this season. Crawford looks like the real deal. Lawrence had his moments. To go from being an improved, but still below average D, to a top 15 unit, I think the Cowboys still need another edge rusher, a stouter 1T, at least 1 corner and a free safety. That's a lot to ask for in a year, but a couple of solid FA moves and high draft picks might do the trick

Wondering what the plan will be for Melton and Spencer. Maybe one would come back for a cheaper deal. If not then that's ok. Both had some good moments last year but also were invisible at times. It's gonna be an interesting off season

I'd bet they will both be playing somewhere else. Would like to see the Cowboys get younger and hopefully healthier at their spots

Yea, I'm basically looking at the raw talent and ignoring all the crap that comes with it.

We took a similar and far cheaper gamble with another player who had some baggage.
Dez's paid off, so maybe we should quit while we are ahead.

I think the answer is to just look at our past season. We are in a position that we don't need to be at the roulette table making big bets.

I mentioned a few guys that were injured and forgot about the one that hurt bad and that was Romo missing a game and a half. Likely cost us HFA .

I'd pick up a guy like Jabaal Sheard.

Suh would make the defense worse from the baggage he carries and his attitude. Garrett is building a team with the right kind of guys and Suh does not fit that criteria. Now before I get jumped on the Man has talent and is a force to be considered but overall he does not fit well in Dallas

I get where you're coming from, absolutely, but we have guys with terrible track records and a third of the talent Suh has on the roster now. I've never heard of Suh beating up on women or stealing underwear. And we signed Rolando McClain just last season. If the Cowboys decide not to go after Suh because they want to have cap flexibility going forward, that's a good deal, but passing on him because he stepped on Rodgers? Last time Jerry passed on a super talent for a high character "right kind of guy" was when he took Greg Ellis over Randy Moss. I'm just saying in the NFL, it's not easy to pass talented guys. The Ravens had Ray Lewis, the Seahawks have Richard Sherman....
