Didn't mean the salary was dropping, meant the % that RBs were earning as compared to the Cap in total. Because of the expected increase in the cap the franchise tag salary itself will go up for sure.

Ok, gotcha

I think that's how it will go. I can't imagine Jerry trying for so long to break out of mediocrity, finally building a team that is really close, and then letting Murray walk?? Nope, hard to imagine. As you said, 1-2 year window, which really could be a 2-3 year window with Romo, I doubt his back allows him to play till he's nearly 40.

Everyone has talked about the trouble Dallas will have signing Dez and Murray, but the reality is, they could sign Dez, Murray, AND Ndamakong Suh, crazy as it sounds. Get Lee back healthy, draft heavy on D......definitely pie in the sky, but I'd bet anything Jerry has considered it

Honestly nothing is Pie In the Sky with this team, a Dez, AP, Suh Offseason could happen, because we could have the cap to do it. Only time will tell though. I'd rather spend the money on McCourtey and Parnell then just get Suh. I'd think that those two would benefit our D better than just Suh would for the same amount of money. Also the fact that Such would play 1 tech for us just doesn't make good logic to sign him to that amount of money for this D, when the 3tech is most important and Crawford clearly is the man for that role.

So you think NE will not resign McCourty?

It's possible, they have MAJOR cap problems from just looking at the numbers off top. They don't do like us, they don't pay players, they move on and replace. They believe the system is what works not the player. Just my opinion, I think he could leave, possibly but not probably

He is a highly regarded player. I don't see anything draft wise that is better than what we have except for maybe Collins who likely won't be around. I do like the guy from Ole Miss that seems to be falling by the day- Pruett. He played soft this season however. I'm all for upgrading our secondary. Whose spot would McCourty take??? Do you believe he is a really good player or more of a good fit for the Pats?

I think he'd be a good player for us; because he could play that center field role we need. He has great cover skills being a former CB. He may actually have the best range in the NFL as a safety. He would be the perfect player to pair with Church. Obviously to me he'd take Wilcox spot as I think Wilcox is more of a Strong Safety like Church is. I think the reason why we saw so much of Heath these last few years is because Heath is probably the only pure Free Safety we have on this roster. Time to upgrade the FS spot and bring in a DE for pass rush.

To me this D isn't far off, a FS, a very good DE, and a good draft that adds depth on the DL and a starting 1tech probably puts us top 10 next season if we keep McClain and Lee gets healthy. I think our CBs are fine if we get a pass rush.

Earl got 4yr/40M with 26 guaranteed
Byrd got 6yr/54M with 26M guaranteed
list goes on and on....I'd say they contract is on par with those two 5yr/40M 8M average seems about right for a guy who some view as the best cover safety in the NFL, and a top 5 overall.

So curious though what about that contract shocks you?

the rumor right now is they will franchise him.

I think it's obvious they will decline option on Revis at 20M next season, but can you all afford Revis and McCourty? To my knowledge and I may be wrong because I don't study the Pats cap, would you all have enough to tag him as the tag S based on a 142M cap number is 9.53M.

I wasn't talking about what he may get from another team, but he isn't even near the player Earl Thomas is.

I've been calling for a true FS since the times when everyone else on these boards was still arguing with me that Roy Williams didn't suck ass, but what surprises me is the thinking that the best way to make the Cowboys better in 2015 is to give that contract to that player. I'd be friggin pissed if we did that.

What about Rolle? Is he better than what we have? Again with Lee coming back and the rest of our LBs, I'm not sure how much we need from a FS in run support- which is obviously Rolles weakness. I would think his coverage skills are better than what we have.

Of course I have read in the past that Carr would never fit as a Safety because he isn't a good enough tackler, so maybe Rolle is similar to Carr

I watched the guy go from CB to S and he is very very good. He is the center field guy we need. Inflation and his value on the market, he would be worth it. I'd be very happy.

Curious would you give Suh 15M per or McCourty and a pass rusher combined 15M per? Not saying any will happen, just curious.

The problem isn't that you need your FS to tackle in the box, in this D he is responsible for everything over the top, he is the last man standing if the man gets to him, no help. If you don't have a guy that can tackle you are in deep shit! Rolle is solid, but I'd rather have Wilcox develop or a Rookie then to give him money. Don't think he is enough of an upgrade to justify spending the money he will get.

I think Dallas plays big money free agents for their own, (20M type guaranties $$) and play a little in the mid-range type guys from other teams. Dallas kept a whole bunch of D-linemen they liked from last year. For once....I think the draft is what their thinking for impact players to add.

I'm not mortgaging my future on $15M per to a guy like Suh that can implode at any moment. So in theory I take the two players if I'm picking one or the other, but I'm not as high on McCourty as you guys are and not giving him that deal myself. I like the direction we are headed in and while I don't overpay for a RB in general I see Murray as much more valuable to our team than McCourty.
