I understood you the first time. You just keep repeating the same thing over and over.

There's nothing to try unless you think playing/switching is all about physical skill set. Clements has been reading defenses one way as a CB all his career. What/how safeties read and react to is different than CB's, and to become NFL caliber, it takes many years of learning and perfecting the ability.

I think it's safe to say that playing Corner in the NFL is a lot "tougher" than playing Safety. Look at the discrepancies in salaries between the two. I don't think the learning curve is that steep (especially for a vet) and there are plenty of examples of NFL Cornerbacks making a successful transition in just an offseason:

Rod Woodson
Ronnie Lott
Troy Vincent
Aeneas Williams
Malcom Jenkins

Not saying that it is easy...just not unthinkable.

Woodson is obviously the standard and I think Lott is thought of more as a safety given he switched after 4 seasons. Williams is one I forgot about and is a good case for "it can be done."

Malcolm Jenkins was a CB at OSU and easily made the switch the next year to S. He doesn't seem to be having any problems with it.

Wasn't manning for the Bears once a CB and turned Safety? He was alright.

Surely there are high school players that switch too, but this is the NFL. The Bengals are a pro franchise and there is zero reason why ownership should have put us in a position where we are relying on some guy to learn a new position this late in his career. It's as simple as that.

I agree they should have taken care of this problem throught free agency, or they need to draft a prototypical safety....until they do, they need to do whatever it takes to have the best four players in the secondary on the field....and none of those are named Crocker.....

True, but as pointed out, there have been guys who successfully made the move late in their career when they started to lose CB speed.

LOL @ you, and your stubborn refusal to consider the possibility.....

LOL @ you for being so desperate you consider the next-to-impossible a possibility.

And given that there has been no substantiation by any source of this speculation makes it even more ridiculous.

Believe me, that's more of a reflection on you than me.

The only thing standing in the way of the move is that Clements is still the second best corner on the team, and the best if Hall can't come back.....

LOL @ you for suggesting I'm desperate.....

From an individual standpoint, no.

But when I try to argue Andrew Luck will not be the 1st pick, then...it's possible, no?

I suggested the move, and only for a purely speculational and conversational standpoint.

I know it won't happen. But when a team is rumored to be looking at signing a 5th CB, AND draft one...you wonder why.

Could be Hall is not expected back as soon as though, though all reports are he's right on schedule...or could be something else. Maybe, if you allow yourself to think outside the box, they think that one of the CB's could play safety.

It's a conversation. Whether it is a real chance or just speculations, it's interesting to wonder why the Bengals are signing/following all these CB's.

Too bad some people on here can't just enjoy having a conversation for conversation's sake.
