1) Tim Dwight - Top returner and one of the top WRs
2) Bob Sanders - Top DB, although King and Jackson are up there
3) Dallas Clark - Top TE, Iowa is up there in TE U
4) Shonn Greene - Best RB for Iowa since I started paying attention
5) Nate Kaeding - Probably best K Iowa ever had

There are many defenders that I can throw in there. Adrian Clayborn, Josey Jewell, Chad Greenway, Jonathan Babineaux, Abdul Hodges, Tyler Sash, Micah Hyde, Carl Davis, Anthony Hitchens, James Morris, AJ Edds, Pat Angerer.

And also OL Robert Gallery, Bryan Bulaga, James Daniels, Austin Blythe, Ike Boettger, Reilly Reiff, Brandon Scherff, Marshal Yanda

It was the late 90s before I really started paying attention.

How the fuck did Alabama not have a Heisman winner before Ingram?

Highest finish before him was David Palmer in '93 who finished 3rd behind Heath Shuler and Charlie Ward. If you want to pad your stats, Alabama is probably not the place where you are going to get an opportunity to do that. Look at Tua this year...50 attempts in 3 games. Imagine if he had 100...or 165 like the Washington St QB.

Since Ingram though, we had 5 other players finish in the top 3. Prior to that, other than Palmer, the only other top 5 finishes I know of, are Lee Roy Jordan in '62 and Johnny Musso in '71, they both finished 4th.

Truth be told, you had to be insane down south before the 90s. Before that, they basically picked the best player from Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Army, Navy, or USC.

Notables pre 90s include: Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, George Rogers, Steve Spurrier, Pat Sullivan, and Billy Cannon. After that, 90% of the players were from above teams mentioned.

I'll just do since we joined the SEC.

1. RB Darren McFadden - 4,590 career rushing yards are tops in Arkansas history and finished second in SEC history at the time to Herschel Walker's 5,259 yards. Set a school and SEC record with 321 yards rushing against South Carolina in 2007. Along with Texas' Ricky Williams, McFadden is only the second player in NCAA history to claim two Doak Walker Awards (2006, 2007) Two-time consensus All-American drafted by the Raiders with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

2. OL Shawn Andrews - Consensus All-American in 2003, Lombardi and Outland Trophy finalist and 2x Jacobs Trophy winner as the SEC's top lineman. Also won the Parker Award in 2003 as the nation's best offensive lineman. Three-time Pro Bowler drafted with the 16th overall selection in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Eagles.

3. QB Ryan Mallett - All-SEC both years at Arkansas. Finished seventh in the Heisman voting in 2010 and was a finalist for the Manning Award in 2009 and 2010. Owns numerous records.

4. QB Matt Jones - Left Arkansas in 2004 as the SEC's all-time leader in career rushing yards by a quarterback (now owned by Tim Tebow). Freak athlete was a four-year starter and eventual first-round pick of the Jaguars as a WR after a crazy performance at the combine.

5. C Jonathan Luigs - 2007 Rimington Trophy winner and Jacobs Trophy winner as the SEC's top lineman.

Auburn has a many that were great but a few that are really special to me. Most of the players from my youth were only on radio. And being the pre internet era, all I ever read about them was from our local paper's stat line so younger players are still more "known" to me. So my non Bo list of favorites:

1. Shaun Coleman- Overcame cancer after he signed with Auburn and is in the NFL today.
2. Tre Smith- Smaller than Rudy and beat Bama as a starter.
3. Heath Evans- Fullback that converted to halfback. Brute, pure brute.
4. Tony Richardson- best fullback ever.
5. The Big Hurt- Frank Thomas played TE and was kept on football scholarship by Pat Dye while he was playing baseball.

David Palmer kind of, great shout out though. TBF, there have been a lot.

Protho no, we were actually the same age as him and Brody were the best players on the Bama team while I was in school. He was electric no doubt, and his catch is something special, whereas his injury is one of the nastiest and pointless things that I hope to ever see in Football...He should have definitely been on this list.

I remember Ron Vandekelen. Saw him play on TV. Great QB. I would rank Ron Dayne as number 1.
