Never heard of it. Please provide a schematic.

4 man backfield? lol You know, the Quarter-back, the Half-backs, the Full-back.

That was something Henry H. Williams, the coach of the Gophers came up with in 1903 to stop the Point a Minute Men of Michigan. It was mainly a defensive innovation at that time. It worked, Minnesota was the only team Michigan didn't beat that season. Game ended in a tie. I am not 100% sure but I believe that Pudge Heffelfinger, the first pro football in history, helped Williams come up with it. I think he was assisting Williams at Minnesota that year.

Led by a Minnesotan at IBM in San Jose, so .5 points

So a person has to be born and raised, educated and then employed as well by a company located in the state in order to earn a full point in your book? Oh, and that person has to have worked alone on the project, too, right? And there can not be anyone ever in history before them that ever conceived of whatever it is they invented or developed or improved on, for them to get full credit? lol

By those standards, even getting .25 credit seems like something for a state or school to be proud of. ;)

First PRO football player EVER was a UMner.

FIRST black Pro football player was a UMner.

First all-american black QB was a UMner.

Minnesota was the FIRST school to kill an African-American in football.

Jack Trice at Iowa State

Maybe the Gophers already have a monument to that.

Minnesota was the FIRST school to kill an African-American in football.

Jack Trice at Iowa State

Maybe the Gophers already have a monument to that.

Are you sure Trice was the first black player to die playing football? Just in 1905 at least a dozen players died. Don't players die every year from playing football?

Minnesota was the FIRST school in the old Big/Western Conf to have a black football player.

And Minnesota was apparently SO racist back in 1923, the famous Roy Wilkins, one of the Big 6 of the Civil Rights Movement, as he was the President of the NAACP from 1955 to 1977. graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1923, where the Univ of Minnesota not only allowed him to attend the school, he worked as a journalist for the The Minnesota Daily, the U of Mn's college paper.

Another one of the Big Six of the Civil Rights Movement, Whitney Young, was the Executive Director of the National Urban League from 1961 to his death in 1971.

So fully ONE-THIRD of the Big Six of the Civil Rights Movement went to the University of Minnesota.

Lets look for a trend here.

1901 - Future America Indian Sports Hall of Famer Eddie Rogers started playing football for the Univ of Minnesota.
1904 - UMner Bobby Marshall was the first black player in the Big/Western Conf. 1920 he was the first black NFL player.
1917 - Future Senate Minority Leader 1959-1969, & co-author of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Everett Dirksen graduated from the Univ of Mn.
1923 - One of the nation's most influential Civil Rights leaders from 1955 to 1977, Roy Wilkins graduated from the Univ of Minnesota.
1932 - Winner of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, early Civil Rights fighter, Mildred Jeffrey graduated from Univ of Minnesota.
1939 - Future Senate Majority Whip & co-author of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Hubert H Humphrey graduated from the Univ of Mn.
1947 - One of the nation's most influential Civil Rights leaders from 1961-1971,Whitney Young graduated from the Univ of Minnesota.
1948 - Hubert H Humphrey's speech at the 1948 Democratic Natl Convention got the party to include Civil Rights in the Party Platform.
1954 - First black Pres of the Natl League of Cities & former mayor of Cleveland, Carl Stokes graduated from Univ of Minnesota.
1960 - First black major college All-American at QB, Sandy Stephens led the Gophers to the Natl Title.

1964 - UMners Roy Wilkins & Whitney Young, 2 of the Big Six of the Civil Rights Movement were leading the NAACP and the Natl Urban League.
1964 - UMners Hubert H Humphrey & Everett Dickson working together were the two most influential and important Senators responsible for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 getting passed.

So... you like that Civil Rights Act? You can thank Minnesota/UMn any time.

So I DO see a trend. A trend that shows the University of Minnesota LEADING the Civil Rights Movement. Like most Minnesotans, they did their leading more quietly than people like MLK Jr and Malcolm X, but that doesn't take away from just how influential they were.

Minnesota may not have invented the wheel, but I bet our invention/development of synthetic rubber had a big effect on all the wheels produced out there in the world today.

If a tree falls in the forest does anyone care about Minnesota.

Well, the former Chief of the US Forest Service, a UMner, might care about both his alma mater, and if a tree falls in the forest.

Now if a tree falls in the forest, does anyone care about Washington State? lol I'd be most cfb fans don't even know what town WSU's located, lol.

If you don't know where a P5 school is located, are you even a fan of CFB?

If only I were on a message board talking about how Washington State University ruled the football world would that make any sense. And it is just so weird how your comebacks keep revolving around how Minnesota is on equal grounds as Washington State. 2 generations have reach adulthood since Minnesota even shared a slice of college football.

Minnesota IS on equal grounds as Washington State, as far as current high school football prospects are concerned.

Minnesota went almost 100 years without winning 10 football games in a single season. Shit since the turn of the century (2000) they have only bested 8 wins 3 times.

Yet retardFred thinks they rule the college football world???

Yes, please keep repeating that.

:dhd:

And Oregon has yet to win a single legit Natl Title in one of the Big 4 of college sports(Fb, BB, Bb or Hk).

ZERO Natl Titles in cfb.
ZERO Natl Titles in chk.
ZERO CWS Titles.
And only 1 title in cbb that is highly disputed.

Better to be a HAS BEEN with 6-10 cfb Natl Titles,, 3 CWS Titles, 3 #1 poll finishes/Natl Titles in cbb, and to still be the #1 chk program of all-time presently, than to be a NEVER BEEN like Oregon.

LMAO - Hockey being in top 4. Women’s basketball is #3 and it’s arguable between softball and baseball what’s 4 & 5. Softball viewership is much bigger than Hockey. Shit Volleyball and Track n Field are bigger than Hockey.

Big 4 meaning the 4 men's sports with big time Pro Leagues that are popular in America and that all pay their athletes big dollars.

The WNBA doesn't even come close to comparing to the NHL, and it's not even close.

NHL players make MORE on average than NFL players, actually.
