Me thinks 42 knows what he's talking about.

I agree, just he might be asking for too much and to be honest he might deserve it. We still got bowman to lock up and a few others. We are very close to the slary cap. Id love him but will his contract make us lose someone else worth having?

This.

...and methinks #42 is a huge homer. He's the GOAT, but he's a homer.

If we keep Goldson then the short answer is yes; but, the reality is this - we are going to lose players, likely a few of them, over the next 1-2 years. Thus begins the balancing act of who to keep and who to lose.

Bowman is clearly at the top of the list and signing him may cost us Goldson. If we can manage to sign both Bowman & Goldson - then we will lose another player or maybe two players. Either way, we are going to lose players.

Bowman has to be the first priority. Hopefully goldson will eventually negotiate a more favorable contract, but it's more likely we re-sign soap and bowman and let goldson walk. Clearing gores contract next season would create some room, though.

Bowman and Aldon Smith are bigger priorities to lock up long-term. Maybe the 49ers will get lucky and can draft Goldson's replacement with the 32nd pick. At the moment, he just wants too much money. He should play like Ed Reed if he wants to get paid like the best safety in the NFL

We may not even need to use that high of a pick.

Aldon isn't a priority for two more years - Bowman and Goldson are priorities this year - Goldson didn't become a full time starter until '09, but since that time he has aggregately matched Ed Reeds performance.

Granted the age difference between Reed and Goldson does make a difference; but, Goldson, like Anthony Davis, is much, MUCH better than some/many 49er fans seem to think he is.
