deBaby in on deWay......

NEW YORK -- Even without lat tightness, New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom may have been unavailable to pitch Wednesday's series finale against the Miami Marlins.

DeGrom departed Citi Field about 3 p.m. ET on Monday headed for a private jet after receiving the long-awaited call that his wife Stacey had gone into labor in Florida with the couple's first child. The baby boy had been due six days ago.

DeGrom previously had been scratched from Wednesday's start because he experienced right lat tightness during his season debut on Friday. Logan Verrett instead is due to start the series finale.

Mets officials have no immediate plans to place deGrom on paternity leave -- which can last one to three days -- and fly in a pitcher from Triple-A Las Vegas. They nonetheless reserved the right to reverse that decision if the bullpen gets overtaxed on Monday.

Playing a man down for now is preferred because of MLB rules regarding the disabled list. Right now, if deGrom rejoins the Mets after spending time with his family and the lat issue persists, a 15-day DL stint can be backdated to Saturday, the day after deGrom last pitched. But if deGrom goes on official paternity leave and the Mets promote another player, the Mets could only backdate any subsequent DL stint to the end of the paternity leave -- potentially losing deGrom for longer than desired.

This home plate ump is a worthless POS.
If he really feels the need to squeeze something...I got something better for him.

I know it's real early in the season but if TC doesn't rag on this ump +/or get tossed, then he's worthless too.

Stanton hits a 2 run HR...7-0 marlins.
All started with the non strike calls on the 1st 2 hitters of the inning....
Matz is done after 1.2 innings...and what seemed like 60 pitches.
TC is still in the dugout for some reason.

Mets' offense performing at mediocre level through six games

Through six games, these are not the 2016 New York Mets that people expected to see.

The Mets slipped to 2-4 after getting blown out 10-3 at home by the Miami Marlins on Monday. They’ve dropped three straight games after winning two of their first three.

Though starting pitcher Steven Matz got hit hard on Monday, the Mets' biggest issue is that they haven’t hit. They’ve scored three runs or fewer in five of the six games. They’re hitting a major league-worst .185 through six games. That’s the fourth-worst batting average through six games in Mets history. It’s the second time in three seasons that they’ve started that poorly. They hit .178 through six games in 2014.

The biggest culprits so far sit at the top and bottom of the lineup. Leadoff hitterCurtis Granderson is 1-for-24 and hitless in his last 20 at-bats. It’s the third straight season that Granderson has gotten off to a rough start. He started 3-for-32 in 2014, and 1-for-18 last season. The Mets' No. 8 hitter, catcher Travis d’Arnaud, is 1-for-15. Unlike Granderson, he started quick last season, going 6-for-15 in his first four games.

The Mets have hit only two home runs in their first six games, or the same amount as their former second baseman, Daniel Murphy, has for theWashington Nationals. They’ve totaled only nine extra-base hits, though that’s actually three more than last year’s World Series-bound squad had through six games last season.

Yoenis Cespedes, Asdrubal Cabrera, Neil Walker and Lucas Duda have one extra-base hit apiece. They combined for 243 extra-base hits last season.

But one sign that better things may be ahead (besides six games being a small sample size) is that the Mets have a major league-low .500 batting average on what video review terms as “hard-hit balls.” The average major league team gets hits on 70 percent of its hard-hit balls.

Stat of the night

Matz allowed seven runs in 1 2/3 innings on Monday. The last time a Mets pitcher allowed at least seven runs while getting five outs or fewer against the Marlins was on the final day of the 2007 season. Tom Glavine allowed seven runs in one-third of an inning in an 8-1 loss that capped the Mets blowing a seven-game division lead with 17 games to play.

Thor is pitching his heart out....but he's getting zero run support from the offense.

Has to be frustrating for him.....it sure is for me.

1-1 game...heading to the bottom of the 6th.
