I agree with your thinking. 6 years vs. 2 years? Who gives a f**k? You either get in or you don't. Just because Kelly took six years doesn't mean any/everyone else has to or should be expected to wait that long.

Making it in earlier after you retire is almost like a special honor. First ballot especially. Even if someone tries to sneak him in, it wouldn't be until well down the road.

McNabb will probably ride the hype machine into the HOF, but I think that would significantly lower the bar for QBs.

Right now, no doubt. Maybe down the road he can get that feel good vote but still I don't see his HoFness. Not saying that opinion don't change but come on 1 NFC title? I know its not all about ships but he doesn't have any stats that blow you away.

Dont know that Kelly so much Choked........Shoulda beat the YOUR NY...Kelly didn't miss Wide right!!!.....and well.....he went against a Skins team that was probably a top 10 SB team all time, and 2 VERY VERY tough Cowboy teams.........cant say in all honesty he choked in those games.....just got beat by the better team!!!

"shoulda" - always a great argument.

Also Norwood was 6-10 from 40-49 yards that season... and sub-50% from 45+

Pretending a 47 yard FG for Norwood was a gimme is irresponsible, ignorant, or both. Not to mention he missed a 40+ yard FG and an extra point the week before.

And as far as Kelly goes... he and the #1 offense in the NFL, that scored 44 and 51 points in the two playoff games prior, only scored 19 in the SB.

Sounds like they just got beat up by the better team :noidea:

Which is the same thing you can say about McNabb in his SB appearance

You think it sets the bar lower than Namath already did?

Singular. Kelly had 4. So all things being equal like their stats, at least Kelly got 4 AFC titles.

McNabb was given a very good shot to win the game and almost literally gave the ball back. His performance at the end of the game was embarrassing.

Namath is an icon of the game. Christ sake he predicted to win Super Bowl 3. Was the real first superstar in the NFL and first QB to eclipse 4000 passing yards top that off with he had to wait 8 years.

McNabb will be 10+

The only way to compare the stats of one QB against the other is against the average over the course of their respective careers like they do in baseball with ERA.

...that is, unless you believe Tony Romo is one of the best QBs who ever played.

Why is that just limited to the QB position? Shouldn't that be a normalizing factor across all positions?

If so, why did it take Art Monk so long to get into the HOF?

And why is Tim Brown not in the HOF? He's arguably a top 2 WR of all time.

One's persona isn't a qualification for HOF voting. And predicting to win the SB? Who fucking cares?

And congrats on throwing for 4000+ yards in one season... in which you threw 26 TDs and 28 INTs. His career numbers are putrid.

From a huge QB-VS-the-average study I did back in 2009:

McNabb's career completion percentage: 59%. That's 2% LOWER than the average QB from 1999 to 2009.

McNabb's YPA: 6.94. That's 0.16 YPA LOWER than the average QB from 1999 to 2009.

McNabb's career passer rating: 85.6. That's 0.6 points above the average from 1999 to 2009.

Boomer Esiason, for comparison, was 0.6% below, 0.2 YPA higher and 0.2 points higher respectively (1984-1997).

No but its milestone moments that give flavor to the hall of fame.

If you want a hall of fame that's strictly about numbers well that's boring.

Boring but objective.

Plostseason performance should be the other deciding factor IMO. That's why Troy Aikman doesn't get enough love. Dude was great in the postseason.

What is McNabb going to do in the next 4 years that will either make him HOF worthy or not?

It's not about what he's gonna do, it's that he isn't worthy of this discussion at the moment. It's not like he's a lock to make the hall of fame.

Not if ESPN, CBS, FOX & NBC have anything to say about it (which they will).

You're telling me you think he's a lock and I'm telling you that's absurd. He's definitely a consideration but nowhere near a lock. I remember him throwing balls straight in the dirt just as much as I remember him making great plays with his legs or his arm. It's like he was a streak shooter in the NBA, when he was on he could make all the throws but when he was off he could be downright terrible.

I don't think he should even be considered that seriously.

I think it's absurd too, but the sports media is so in love with the though of McNabb being this great QB that I think they'll make sure he gets in. And it'll be the most embarrassing day for the NFL hall of fame since its origin.

Haha, yeah it very well could be if he gets in.
