It was a different era. McNabb was great for the eagles but he isn't a hall of famer. If he doesn't choke in that Super Bowl maybe a case can be made but as is he didn't do enough.

IDK, 5 NFC championship game appearances. How many other QB's can say they made 5 championship game appearances in this day and age. 2-3? I really don't have the number. McNabb is one of those guys no matter which way it does I won't be upset. If he doesn't get in I can see why, but if he does get in I won't be bewildered. I can see why he would get in too.

Kelly was out of the league 6 years before he got elected to the HoF.

McNabb hasn't even been out 2.

This is a discussion about 4 years too early.

I agree with this as well.

Please explain the "it was a different era." I'm not exactly sure how that relates to the comparison.

And didn't Kelly choke in 4 SBs with a much more loaded team, both offensively and defensively?

What is McNabb going to do in the next 4 years that will either make him HOF worthy or not?

:noidea: but its paying his dues. If he hasn't made it by year six then I can jump on the wagon.

Right now only difference between him and Kelly is Kelly has 4 conference titles and McNabb has 1.

Kelly had one of the best offenses on the planet. Many have called it the best team to not win the superbowl. McNabb never had the support Kelly did.

McNabb is already HOF worthy. It's only a matter of time.

Great thread too.

Dont know that Kelly so much Choked........Shoulda beat the YOUR NY...Kelly didn't miss Wide right!!!.....and well.....he went against a Skins team that was probably a top 10 SB team all time, and 2 VERY VERY tough Cowboy teams.........cant say in all honesty he choked in those games.....just got beat by the better team!!!

If someone throws for 5000 yards today, it's a pretty good season, but not memorable. If someone did it 20 years ago, it is far more impressive.

Similar stats from so far apart don't have much value.

And Kelly made 4. McNabb made one. It wasn't about him it being i because "he's a choker", but because he doesn't have the credentials to be worthy. If he won one maybe it's enough. 0 isn't with his career.

I agree with your thinking. 6 years vs. 2 years? Who gives a f**k? You either get in or you don't. Just because Kelly took six years doesn't mean any/everyone else has to or should be expected to wait that long.

The only way to compare the stats of one QB against the other is against the average over the course of their respective careers like they do in baseball with ERA.

...that is, unless you believe Tony Romo is one of the best QBs who ever played.

The HOF isn't just some automatic ok your in after you retire club. If that were the case it would be watered down.

Kelly won 4 AFC championships, straight. Well their are guys in the HOF with mulitpul championships like that, before they had the super bowl so it has some merit and its own place in the HOF. Consideration was given after being on the ballet and he was elected. More power to Kelly.

On the flip side McNabb has 1 NFC title and has only been out of the league one full season. Sorry that doest scream automatic. Maybe after a couple years (10) they can look at the over all quality and ask, does he belong.

McNabb will probably ride the hype machine into the HOF, but I think that would significantly lower the bar for QBs.
