I agree with most of the Pens lists put up here. Crosby-Lemieux-Jagr are pretty much not debatable if we're going 3F model; I'd probably say Coffey-Carlyle on D; goal you have to go Barrasso, but yeah...I don't even think he's really a HoFer. However, outside of the G that's tough to beat. I suppose MTL's all-time team could. Not sure any others would. However, feel free to list some, I could be way off base.

For the Minnesota North Stars, I'd go with the following:

LW - JP Parise
RW - Dino Ciccarelli
C - Neal Broten
D - Curt Giles
D - Lou Nanne
G - Jon Casey

It pained me to leave off stalwarts like Willi Plett, Basil McRae, Enrico Ciccone, Shane Churla, etc. Those teams of the mid to late 80's were an absolute shit show. I would include Modano, but he had his best years in Dallas.

And Fuck Norm Green.

Ridiculously underrated little superhero.

Sounds like a new thread - top 30 best franchise goalies ranked.

Is Russian Red Army a franchise?

Jackets -
G - Bob (With nod to the Tuggernaut)
D - Klesla
D - Tyutin (soon to be Murray)
RW - Nash
LW - Sanderson
C - Espen Knutsen

If you count what players did elsewhere, then you have to replace Knutsen with Fedorov.

I'd have better goalies from about half those franchises - Anaheim, Florida, Nashville, St. Louis, and Washington just off the bat.

Sounds like a new thread - top 30 best franchise goalies ranked.

Longevity is a problem for a lot of the guys on those teams. I'm assuming we're only talking about the time they spent on the team they're representing.

I gave it a quick glance. Vernon - yes. 5-time all-star.

Agree with esls on Giguere.

Kolzig, CuJo, Niemi, the Beezer, Rinne all better in my opinion. Close call on a few of them and tough to compare goalies of different eras.

That's why I think all-star teams are really a good comparison tool. Barasso only had two. And I'm not Pen hating here either, I'd put Kolzig near the bottom of the list as well.

Niemi? The guy has about half as many games on his team resume. Rinne has the same problem. CuJo and Vanbiesbrouck same thing, both had better careers but spent a lot of their games elsewhere.

Barrasso also played in the same conference as Hasek, Brodeur and Roy for most of his Pittsburgh years. Awfully tough to make the All-Star game over those guys.

Using actual positions, not just 3 forwards...

G: Tom Barrasso
D: Paul Coffey
D: Dave Burrows
C: Mario Lemieux
LW: Kevin Stevens
RW: Jaromir Jagr

stevens over sidney or joe mullen?

Burrows over larry murphy?

No, he used real positions. So Lemieux over Sidney and Jagr over Mullen.

Burrows over Murphy I can't defend, but he's already explained it above

G - Johnny Bower
D - Borje Salming
D - Hap Day
F - Frank Mahovlich
F - Doug Gilmour (owe my youth interest in hockey to him)
F - Lanny McDonald

I like the Big M inclusion.

Although it pains me to exclude some pretty damn awesome Centres like Gilmour, Sittler, the Chief Armstrong, and Apps, I would choose David Keon.

I might also replace McDonald with Ron Ellis, only because Lanny had so much of his great career in Cowtown.

Salming is a no brainer. Day or Horton are the other two choices, for sure.

Goalie has to be the Turk. (Did you know.....the Monster played 1 more game in net for the Leafs than Jacques Plante did???)

Man, it definitely shows that the Flyers have had some pretty good forwards in their franchise history when guys like Reggie Leach and Rick MacLeish don't make the cut.

/Either that or it shows my advancing age.

Flyers

G: Parent
D: Pronger
D: Howe
F: Barber
F: Clarke
F: Recchi

For fun, I was going to say Hextall, Pronger, Van Impe, Schultz, Kelly, Brown as an All Bully Team.

It's hard to leave out Leach, MacLeish, Kerr, Propp, even Lindros was pretty good for a while.

Well, I just broke the tie (lol)

Haha. When it's all over, I'll make a nice musical montage of the competition with lots of shots of us furiously typing away at our computers probably set to this...

Also, Bernie Parent is the no-brainer for Flyers goalie, but it's just such a shame that Pelle Lindbergh died in that car accident, he was well on his way to being a fine goalie and quite possibly a Hall-of-Famer.

Flyers have always been able to produce top forwards - every year they're one of the best offensive teams
