The Raptors and Warriors are virtual unknowns to casual basketball fans. Hoops nerds like us on these boards will watch of course. But it's the casual fan that drives the t.v. numbers in the finals.

The reason David Stern once said that his dream finals would be Lakers vs. Lakers is because the casual fan needs "big name" teams and the Warriors and Raptors aren't big name teams. So, the casual fan is unlikely to watch.

Too bad too, because they would miss an amazing finals. A Warriors/Raptors matchup would likely end up being one of the most fun and exciting finals ever. But the t.v. ratings would likely be very low.

The NBA especially is set up for bandwagoners and dick riders. It has the least parity of any other league by far.

I'm the same way but the casual fan doesn't think like that. Not a Hockey fan so I don't usually watch unless a game is in OT in the playoffs but for MLB or NBA I could careless who is in the finals
