Yeah, we've been talking about him in the Zachary Miller released thread, do you read these threads?

I did read the Miller one earlier.... But there was no mention of Thomas...

I don't like them forking out a boat load of cash for this guy. He isn't known as a particularly great blocker, and the big numbers he's put up have come while playing with Peyton Manning in an offense with Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, and Emmanuel Sanders to account for. He's definitely a talented pass catching TE though and I wouldn't mind seeing him on the team as long as the price is right.

It would be nice to get a TE that was good at both and maybe JT isn't the right guy, but the Seahawks needs some receiving weapons and TEs usually are cheap compared to WRs.

I don't see that Thomas will be that expensive. Yeah, it most likely will be somewhere in the $5-7 million range, but nothing suggests it should be higher than that.

As for his blocking, all indications are that he's ready willing and able to block - just doesn't digest the information properly and misses blocks due to that. He's relatively new to the sport, so it could be something that can be fixed with more time. I've read that he's gotten better at blocking, so there is a real possibility that he'll continue to improve.

Isn't Gresham also a free agent? He is a fine Pass catcher and a solid blocker.

I'd pass on Thomas. He has good athletic ability, but his numbers were inflated from playing in an offense that throws the ball 600-660 times a year by one of the greatest in NFL history.

He has never played more than 14 games in an entire season, sucks at blocking, and according to teammates doesn't care about football and is just looking to cash out.

Spend the money elsewhere.

Russell Wilson does need help, but relative to the cost I don't see that Julius Thomas is worth it. Spend the money on Andre Johnson when he gets released.

Problem is those guys just dont hit the open market. Teams that draft them make sure to lock them up like Gronk, Witten a few years back. I dont think JT gets or deserves Graham money which was $10 APY so I would be ok with 7-8 mil and then drafting a receiver high

I disagree. There is a lot to suggest that he will get more imo. Starting with the fact that there are 9 TEs who currently average 7 mil+.

Thank God (heading South). I don't want Thomas. He's never healthy, played in a pass first offense with basically the GOAT QB throwing his way, and has $$ first on his mind (obviously leaving a playoff/super bowl contender to go somewhere crappy).

Just no. Spend the money elsewhere (D-Line or an older WR who cares about a SBOWL win and will give 100%).

I also am glad that they didn't overspend on him.

This team is just not built to overspend on the passing game positions. The big bucks go to the D. The remainder goes to the running game and a big check to Wilson.

The fact is that WRs will be built on the cheap and the draft. The OL will be built similarly. Big money will not be spent on a TE. A cheaper run blocking TE would make much more sense.

If any FA money is spent on players outside the organization I expect it to be on DL and a depth CB who can help hold things together until Lane comes back and a draft pick can develop. Maybe a stopgap OG.

Beyond that I expect only cheap depth signings.

Such is the price for the success we have had.

You still have one of the best teams. Cap space means you are going to have watch some of the high$ free agents get signed by teams throwing their money around. You still have a lot mid-tier free agents and draft picks. Not as many needs as the teams throwing away money.....

Teams that make huge splashes in free agency usually fail. Suh/Maxwell contracts? RIDICULOUS.

Teams that spend money to retain their key players obtained through draft or developed CHEAP free agents are usually playoff bound.
