Fact is he is going to miss time. How much, who knows?
Then, we are looking at around a 35 win season?
Will Kobe be happy with that?

Then, are you familiar with salary cap hold $$$ working against your next years cap?
If not, study it.

If Kobe were off the books this year, that goes away.

It gives his body a year off to rest/heal.
It puts their cap space in a MUCH better situation moving forward.
