I guess the injuries just caught up to him.

Sad hearing stories like this... But he's a class act. He'll make the best of his situation.

Locker was out the door anyways. Titans have Mettenberger and 1 capable backup in Whitehurst. They also acquired Jordan Palmer last season, who is a groomable prospect.

awful. looking back at titans drafting him so high. JJ Watt was 3 picks AFTER Locker, Watt was 1 pick after Blaine Gabbert and 1 pick before Chis ponder . BLAHAHAHAHA

seeking a QB at all cost is the kiss of death way more often than not. None of those guys passed the NFL eye test coming in as all that. Let's watch Philly do the same thing for MM. :D

That may be one of the worst QB drafts ever.

I was never a fan of his game but it sucks for any player to have to call it quits at a young age from injuries.

Nah, it had Cam Newton. Teams just got stupid because the rookie scale changed and they decided to reach in the best draft in the past couple of decades. Seriously, the first 71 picks of that draft were NUTS

Cam Newton isn't very good though. I'd say Dalton ended up being better. Gabbert, Locker, and Ponder were huge busts.

Obviously. They should've never been first rounders to begin with, though.

Gabbert never had pocket presense
Locker never had accuracy
Ponder never had ANY arm strength

None of them have ever looked like an NFL QB

Really sad to see. Locker had a TON of natural talent and leadership qualities but just couldn't stay healthy. It was a big red flag before he entered the NFL too. He took a lot of risks and played REALLY hard at UW. Definitely kept UW somewhat relevant when that team was basically crap.

I'm kind of glad he got a pay day. You see guys like Russell who get paid and just become lazy/crap. And then guys like Locker who work hard and just get plagued by injury. Makes me feel a bit for RG3 too. I was probably way too hard on the guy (even though I called him a bust prior to his 1st season)... but another guy that I feel has tried to play hard/step it up, and just got nailed by injuries. Hopefully RG3 proves me wrong.

HOF chances?

He should have left UW one year earlier.

That may be one of the worst QB drafts ever.

That whole draft was completely screwed up because of the lockout. It was the only modern draft to happen BEFORE the free agency period because of the contract fight between the players and owners. Because of that teams were a lot more desperate to fill out their QB holes in case they should miss out on their FA QB targets.

Had FA happened before the draft like normal that year, there is no way Locker goes top 10 and there is no way my Vikings take a 3rd round QB prospect like Ponder with the 12th overall pick! :gaah: I want a do over!

But I still can't believe that so many "professionals" pulled the trigger on guys like Gabbert, Locker and (especially) Ponder as early as they did. None of them were legit 1st round QB prospects to anyone who had been paying attention.

When the Vikes were on the clock I was so excited because we were going to get Fairley or Quinn. When they called Ponder's name my heart broke and my stomach turned. That was an obvious failure of a pick as there ever was for my team.

That was one of the first drafts with the new CBA where QBs weren't getting paid $40+M if taken top 10. Everyone went QB crazy in that draft to try and find 'their guy' knowing it wouldn't ruin the franchise if it didn't pan out.

Locker was top 10 worthy, he just had injury problems (similar to Bradford the year before). Guy had natural leader, mobility, and all the intangibles though. I remember mocks had him going #1 overall the year prior if he declared (woops on his part).

Ponder on the other hand was a 2nd round prospect AT BEST. Why the Vikes went that route is beyond me. But again, QB... hope it works out, was cheap.

Cam isn't a very good passer...middle of the road on a good day. The difference is he can get away with a lot more because of his size and athleticism. That's why Carolina runs the read option. Before Ponder lost his job they had really similar passing stats.
