Kind of, yes, in that they won't take the hit for his signing bonus which saves $6m off the top, but he is still due $15mil this year. The talking heads are saying the Bears and Foles have agreed to restructure, for whatever that means.
Looks like foles gets to Decide if he leaves.

If things do not go well with the Bears... Good luck to any team wanting Foles... PARTICULARLY, if he can't beat out Mitch in spring training (which would be funny as hell).

This will be interesting. Foles has been good and he has been bad in his career. Very streaky. I can see the Bears starting with Trubisky then going to Foles after a couple games and then switching back and forth which almost never works.

I love this line by Pace.

As I studied all these quarterbacks, his accuracy jumps out right away

i actually just posted this in another thread..........but this ones funny too

"He can extend the play. And one trait you'll notice, as quarterbacks are extending the play, the ability to move around and keep his eyes downfield still looking for open targets instead of just tucking the ball and wanting to run. So, very good on third down. Very good completion percentage with pressure in his face. Just a lot of traits that he has that translate well to the NFL game."

--------------------------------

However, when it comes to taking sacks, Trubisky ranks fifth. That is where the narrative comes from. The issue is less about the offensive line and more about Trubisky under pressure.

Trubisky ranks sixth in pressure rate minus sack rate. Only Kyle Allen, Derek Carr, Andy Dalton, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Kyler Murray get sacked at a higher rate when they face pressure. The issue is not that the line is allowing pressure; it is that when Trubisky faces pressure, he takes sacks more than an average quarterback. The average time of sack for Trubisky is 4.04 seconds. This is the fourth-highest rate in the NFL. He can scramble and keep plays alive, but generally, he is taking sacks out of structure when the play breaks down, not because his offensive line got beat immediately.

These numbers are backed up by having the worst completion rate in the NFL under pressure, and the worst passer rating as well. This is not affected by throwaways either; he ranks 23rd out of those 27 in throwing the ball out of bounds to live another down. While others are throwing the ball away, to avoid pressure, he is taking sacks to make his line look worse. He does not function well under pressure, which overrates how often he actually was under pressure."""

Holy shit that is bad.

Someone on that Twitter thread found that 5 of the top 12 seasons for passing TD's for the Bears occurred in the pre-Super Bowl era. That's bonkers.

The Bears have been going against the grain. While every other team has taken advantage of the forward pass, the Bears have somehow not done so.
