Sure, I understand the whole betting on yourself standpoint......

But.....no, it just takes one good hit and he's done for the season.

Teams are happy to delay paying stars if they can get away with it. It makes sense for them to take the cheap 4th year, the below market value 5th year option, franchise tag 6th year, and consider the 120% tag 7th year. The player has to force the issue when he loses the least amount and the team gets the least good option...and that point is the 4th year of the rookie contract. If Jackson wants to wait until year 6 and lose tag money that's his choice, but it's not the best business decision.

Running QB's are like RB's....they have a shorter shelf life than other positions.....he is risking a whole lot.

Probably needed an agent, rather than repping himself.

I voted Yes.
He is under Contract. He is showing he is a man of his word.
Its his job that he agreed too. To go play this year.

Let's say you had a job that was severely underpaying you and have at least 8 other companies willing to pay you at least double what you are making and guarantee you 10X what you would be making this year over the next 5-years. You are in a career where things can end in a hurry are you really taking that risk just to live up to a contract that the other side would never honor if things were reversed and he wasn't living up to the contract?

If you are asking me do I agree he should try to get a better deal. The answer yes. But he hasnt gotten something he wants to agree with yet.
If you are asking me if he should hold out. The answer is no.

As far as your example. You left out I cant get out of my contract. Which means I wouldnt be working at all, but sitting at home, not working for one of those other companies. Which means I would work out my contract then move on if need be.

Well let's say you could leverage trying to force the company to let you move on by them getting something in return from another company. Then you do have some leverage to force their hands.

I agree most likely what should and will happen is he plays this year on the contract he has and then comes back to the table next year hopefully in an even better place to negotiate for more money. I also though think with his unique skill set there is a lot of worry about not getting something done and I'm sure the Ravens know that and are using it to play hardball.

If I make my living as a mobile QB Every year would worry me. I am also sure the Ravens can use that against Lamar.
Pocket QBs can miss a year with injury (hold out whatever..) & come back just as good. Not necessarily true with a running QB.
Bottom line. Lamar doesnt have leverage this year.

Also this company (NFL) is the reason he is a multimillionaire & has the ability to get a ridiculous contract on his next signing. So he could go to another company if he liked, like the CFL. But I believe he knows which company is the best one to stick with.

He's not an intelligent human being anyway. Insanely athletic though. Probably one of the less intelligent qbs you will find. Not Vince Young dumb though.

Side Note. I dont think any of the QBs are worth the contracts (Non rookie contracts) they get. But until they change the rules somehow. This is what the market bares.

I think yes. Let's use wrestling as a analogy here..............

This is something i posted on a wrestling fourm, not here, about a match Sunday night.

But Storyline wise MJF holding lure (Casino Chip) till he gets what the fuck he wants sounds good to me.

Lamar holds the cards here, Not the ravens

What is Lamar gonna do? Threaten to retire?
Ravens will play without him.
He cannot play without the Ravens.

The only player to do this successfully was Barry Sanders.

Why can't he go into FA and sign elsewhere?

Nfl contracts are mostly unguaranteed, and they even make players pay back money that they got as signing bonuses.

I would love playing on franchise tag or hitting FA if I was a QB, or anything besides a RB.

He's a risk though. The way he plays has a shorter shelf life. If anyone can prove the standard wrong it is him. But I certainly wouldn't gamble it all over 20 million here or there.

His game is very dependent on his legs. If he slows down any.. it limits him more than other qbs.

He should probably take a big extension now. His game is mostly based on his athleticism and running ability which opens up the passing game for him. His QB skills alone - independent of his running ability - are somewhere around average to slightly below average.
I know his passing stats would imply otherwise, but it cannot be understated how much of that is because of his dynamic athletic ability which is, like mamba said, one hit away from being gone. He's a smart guy and he has steadily improved as a passer but he should look to guys like Russell Wilson, Josh Allen and (to a lesser extent) Dak Prescott as examples of mobile QBs that learned to be dynamic passers of the football as they matured.

His agent is a giant dumbass, I think.

He has to be top-3 at the position and manage to make it through the season unscathed, if he wants to get the sort of money through free agency he thinks Baltimore wasn't willing to give him.
