Yes and he'll do that once he's on another team. Nobody is going to offer him a contract this year unless it's for peanuts. He's going to have to prove his worth with a new team and then depending on how it goes he may earn a contract offer at some point or not.

Risking a career ending injury to help the Browns just isn't in the cards.
OK...and how does he prove his worth if he's never moved to a new team?

quick clue....if he never played for another team this year and only played for the Browns (and played well) someone would offer him a deal without him having played for their team. as a QB it would likely be a nice deal, too (again, if he played well).

He'll prove his worth once he's traded or picked off WW this season with his new team or he'll have to sign a prove it deal with some team next season.

I will give you a name AJ Green his final season with the Bengals milked the shit out a injury/fake injury because he was going to be a FA the following season and wanted to be healthy for the off season of trying to land a contract. He was upset the Bengals won't extend/resign him.
That's the best you can do? A guy winding down his career and regressing who had already had at least one huge contract beyond his rookie deal? AJ Green is your comparison to Baker? FYI, even if this was a good comparison, he did not get much of a deal from sitting out so his example is a reason for baker to play and prove himself.

Ya gotta love this forum.

OK, but in this example we are talking about Baker playing for the Browns and playing well. For some reason you just cannot get yourself to admit this would be great for Baker.

See you did exactly what I expected and poo poo the name I gave you because it doesn't fit what you have convinced yourself of. Players milk/fake injuries if it suits them.

Play what 3 games, 6 games? You think this proves jack shit to other NFL teams, over what they have seen the last 4 years? No team is giving a contract because Mayfield played a few extra games even with the surgery/injury. A contract ( beyond a prove it deal) doesn't come until he plays for some team and proves he makes THAT team better.

How about just one name of a person coming off injury/surgery in a contract year who thought faking an injury was the way to go?
Trent Williams I also think maybe gillmore did it too

Cowboys had a Dlineman thats claimed to be injured. Then went to the redskins & was instantly healthy.

Lots players do this, we know this and so does dtgold88. He's trying to convince himself that THIS TIME that won't apply, but that's a fantasy.

Or Baker will be the guy he's been his entire life and tried to prove himself to everyone he's what he thinks he is (whether he is or not)?
He's already said his goodbyes to the fans. The Browns don't want him and he wants out.

Now if you were in Bakers shoes, would you want to be traded, or be a FA where you can negotiate a new deal with any interested team?

I know I'd prefer going the FA route, especially knowing the Browns have to pay me anyway.

Get 18M+ from the Browns and sign a 1 year vet minimum (prove it) deal elsewhere, or sign a two/three year deal to agree to hold a clipboard.

You said I would say to prove he milked it by faking an injury. I don't doubt that could have happened with green.......what I did do was try to enlighten you and explain why Green could feign injury but it would be in baker's best interest to prove he could play. Ergo, it does not suit Baker to fake an injury.

If the Browns put Baker on the market after 2020 would they have received offers for him? If so, what type of offers in your opinion? See if you can answer like a big boy with no agenda.

should have added (and I did later) that such a player need to be more in a situation like Baker where he needs to prove his worth and has not received his big contract (like Williams and Gilmore).

Only reason I didn't add that caveat as since we are talking about Baker and what's best for him that seemed obvious.

It was in AJ interest to play also (if you disregard risking injury), he was in the final year of his contract and there was some doubts about his play.

I do know it could happen (though so far your "lots of players" is 3). Can you really not see the difference in the situations of Trent Williams and Gilmore compared to Baker.

Seriously, you have to be messing with me if you don't.

No idea because they didn't do that and what ifs are kind of silly

Unless he really was hurt, which he might have been. For this argument, though, feel free to claim we know he was hurt as doesn't make a big difference. AJ was a regressing player and had had at least 1 if not 2 huge contracts. Baker is playing for his first huge deal and likely believes he is not regressing at this point in his career. In addition, in this discussion, we are assuming he would play well if he plays. It's comedy gold you cannot just get yourself to say that would be best for him.

what do you mean no idea? You seem to think you know what kind of QB Baker is no matter what he does next time he plays.

Like most who would refuse to answer, by what ifs are silly it's obvious you mean you look silly if you answer honestly. Kind of funny you offer baseless opinions as facts but cannot answer a simple hypothetical question asking for an opinion.

Every situation is unique to some degree and their will always be differences. We are reading the tea leaves here and from my view the Browns and Mayfield are divorcing and neither the Browns or Mayfield want Mayfield on the roster or taking a snap. What is happening at the moment is haggling about terms of the divorce and it's not looking good for the Browns IMO.
