If he re injures the shoulder or blow out his knee it won't be career ending but man it would be costly for him. If they ask him to play he'll find a reason not to.
I'm not positive but I believe if he claims a non football injury to not play, they can void his contract, in fact I think they can hold his rights and not pay him.

The last thing baker doesn't want to do is claim injury

He can claim the shoulder that he had surgery on doesn't feel right, besides what kind of effort would you get from a player forced to go into a game? I'd be really surprised if Mayfield plays another snap for the Browns. The Browns will either sweeten the offer until someone bites or they'll cut him. Other NFL teams would prefer he was a free agent, Mayfield I feel would prefer being a FA. The Browns of course want to get something out of the deal and I'm sure they have lowered their expectations on what they get out of this, but not enough.....yet.

They'd be paying Baker, Trubisky AND Pickett combined less than a number of starting QBs earn. Hell, they might be paying them less than some backups.
Yeah, often times they pay a starter 24-30mill and 3-5 million for a backup.

Of course if he is suspended it would be more of a reason to not cut Baker. Which is what I have said multiple times. I don't get why you are even stating that
They have Brissett.....nobody in that locker room wants Mayfield there.

He has lost all trust of that locker room.

Fine, but it's still paying two bridge QB's.

IMO as soon as Pickett was drafted any ideas about bringing in Mayfield went into the round file.
Pray Dak doesn't get hurt.....Jerry would trade a 3rd or 4th in a heartbeat for Mayfield so their season doesn't go to shit.

who cares? One would be paid the vet minimum. No risk, high reward.

Getting cut allows him to sign with any team that wants him. Playing and getting injured is about as bad as it can gets for Mayfield. Unless he has a no trade clause he got no say where a trade sends him.

You should take your own advice and leave the homer glasses off.
Think you need to take the cut idea out of your thought process here as it's not happening.

Ok, let's move on. How am I being a homer? By saying what might be best for Baker and the Browns is he play to re-establish his value? In a normal situation he's no worse off getting hurt than he would be in this situation.

To your last comment, sure, Baker has no say where he goes but no reason the browns would not try to help him out to go where he wants if that team wants him.

He has no. NO-trade cause as he's playing on the 5th year extension. That money is guaranteed is hes on the team or cut.

Only way the Browns don't pay is if they trade him, or find a way ti fine him.

Playing and getting injured as long as its not a career ending injury would be great for Baker.

He doesn't want to be in Cleveland, if he's injured he can be paid to sit at home.
Playing and getting hurt better than playing and playing well? For a guy looking for a new contract?

Correct, but I don't get your point. Maybe I was unclear with what I was saying. because that's kind of what I meant to say: if Watson is suspended and the Browns know about it ahead of time I don't think they would cut Baker. But if it looks like his suspension will be pushed back I wouldn't be surprised if he is cut. Now with all that has gone down, including what went down after they started to pursue Watson, I don't think they want Baker around and I don't think the $18M is going to stop them from cutting him because no one is going to trade for him IMO. Right now they are waiting it out and hoping someone agrees to take him, but once the team starts getting together for camp I'm not sure that will still be the case.
why would they cut him to potentially pay him to beat us?

What drama? See this board. See the media. See social media. And it's only mid may!!! Imagine once camp starts or once the season starts and we watch Baker sulking on the sideline 20 times per game and the Browns coaches and GM need to spend half their press conference talking about a guy who isn't even playing.
Exactly....the drama is the fans and the media. The Browns don't care about the fans or the media and will not make a decision out of emotion.

IF you saw Baker sulking on the sideline? Sure, that would be an issue. But once again you are proving my point the drama is all fan driven and in this case made up by a fan.

What kind of effort would you get? From a guy hoping to prove he is healthy so he can be traded AND also earn a contract extension?

Once again, try and think like someone who does not just hate baker for a minute (and/or the Browns).

Thinking if a team signed Baker for vet minimum (and why pay more?) Baker, Trubisky and Pickett combined would make about $10-12 mil.

Think you need to cut the idea that Mayfield ever takes another snap for the Browns because that's not happening. That idea is just some homer fantasy.

Baker value isn't going to go up based off a few games in 2022 but certainly could drop his value if he looks really bad. He's viewed as either a bridge QB or a back up that's not changing. If you think blowing out a knee or re injuring the shoulder doesn't leave him worse off then probably no point in further discussion because that's ludicrous.

This is where I disagree with you. Only player who actually spoke about him was Ward who says he still talks to Baker often AND mentioned Baker was among first to congratulate him. The O-lineman all seem to love the guy.

Again, is this a SportsHoopla version of Punked? For Baker to play, the guy we just paid a shit ton for in picks and salary would have to be suspended for a long time. You think it's my homer fantasy that this is what happens? Now THAT was comedy gold and deserves a "ya gotta love this forum"

Baker's value has never been lower than it is right now. Far better chance that can be improved by playing than lowered.

I said getting hurt in THIS situation does not leave him worse off than it would in a normal situation (meaning, no watson and Baker just comes back as the starter). Either way he's screwed as he has no extension yet.

Might be no point in further discussion, though, until you can think like a big boy with no agenda.
