Don't be so sure about that. I think it's a good possibility if Watson is not suspended for the beginning of this season that Baker is cut. They don't want him around and no one wants to trade for him
I mean, had watson not been available he'd likely still be the starter. :noidea:

The obvious reason they'd need Baker would be a 8 game suspension. I think they'd do what they could to convince Baker to play.
Not sure it would be that tough.

Browns AND Baker's agent - "play or you don't get paid (nor an accrued season)"
Baker - "uh, ok"

Browns could also add...."play well and easier to deal you where you want to go AND get an extension"

Because they don't want him and his drama around the team. They have enough drama with their new predator QB, the last thing they need is Baker also being around. Yes they pay him either way but I think they rather him stay at home than show up at the field and there is only one way to guarantee that. The money is a sunk cost. Baker is at this point addition by subtraction
what drama? A podcast where he was joking with dudes and mostly praised the Browns?

Only player I've heard mention him was Ward and he said they still talk often.

No one gave a QB in the middle of incredibly serious legal issues and almost guaranteed to be suspended $230M guaranteed before either, yet here we are...
and if he is suspended even more reason not to cut Baker, eh?

I can recall teams paying another team to take a expensive QB off their hands, Goff to the Lions being the most recent. Not sure about being cut but think the Eagles suffered like 33 million in dead money to move Wentz. Browns always have the option to pay a team to take Mayfield, maybe offer a second to pay half his contract or a first ( not sure the Browns have one though) to take all of Mayfield contract, or just cut him and eat the dead money.
or keep him and not pay him to potentially beat them?

a first or 2nd to take half his contract? Is this a SportsHoopla version of Punked?

Player that don't want to risk injury simply claim they aren't healthy enough to play. For example AJ Green his last season with the Bengals did just that.

In a heartbeat they would.

Pickett would sit and learn the system and they'd have Mayfield and Trubs.....Mayfield would win the job.
Why pay Mayfield and Tubbs as a bridge QB.

The Steelers want Pickett to be the future, if not they'll try again in 23

Cool...and how does not playing help him get traded where he wants to go so he can prove himself and get an extension? IF what you said was true, why would baker agree to play last season with a major injury that needed surgery. Are you just messing with me?

Try thinking about this like someone who just doesn't like Baker and eliminate your emotion from your thinking.

They'd be paying Baker, Trubisky AND Pickett combined less than a number of starting QBs earn. Hell, they might be paying them less than some backups.

Fine, but it's still paying two bridge QB's.

IMO as soon as Pickett was drafted any ideas about bringing in Mayfield went into the round file.

Getting cut allows him to sign with any team that wants him. Playing and getting injured is about as bad as it can gets for Mayfield. Unless he has a no trade clause he got no say where a trade sends him.

You should take your own advice and leave the homer glasses off.

He has no. NO-trade cause as he's playing on the 5th year extension. That money is guaranteed is hes on the team or cut.

Only way the Browns don't pay is if they trade him, or find a way ti fine him.

Playing and getting injured as long as its not a career ending injury would be great for Baker.

He doesn't want to be in Cleveland, if he's injured he can be paid to sit at home.

If he re injures the shoulder or blow out his knee it won't be career ending but man it would be costly for him. If they ask him to play he'll find a reason not to.

Correct, but I don't get your point. Maybe I was unclear with what I was saying. because that's kind of what I meant to say: if Watson is suspended and the Browns know about it ahead of time I don't think they would cut Baker. But if it looks like his suspension will be pushed back I wouldn't be surprised if he is cut. Now with all that has gone down, including what went down after they started to pursue Watson, I don't think they want Baker around and I don't think the $18M is going to stop them from cutting him because no one is going to trade for him IMO. Right now they are waiting it out and hoping someone agrees to take him, but once the team starts getting together for camp I'm not sure that will still be the case.

What drama? See this board. See the media. See social media. And it's only mid may!!! Imagine once camp starts or once the season starts and we watch Baker sulking on the sideline 20 times per game and the Browns coaches and GM need to spend half their press conference talking about a guy who isn't even playing.

Of course if he is suspended it would be more of a reason to not cut Baker. Which is what I have said multiple times. I don't get why you are even stating that
