Busy... and busy... and busy. Wife is well... grandkids older... even get a break or two at work.

How's life on your end?

Not bad. School keeps me pretty busy, but I have no complaints. I do get a break for the holidays starting next week, so I'm sure the missus will not hesitate to present me with a holiday "to-do" list after I've had a few days to veg around the house.

Needless to say, she's enjoying the football season. Her Packers are doing well, whereas the Bears...

the irony of an article titled "Numbers don't tell the whole story" but then proceeds to try to use statistics to back up their opinion is really rich! God, do journalists ever bother to just stand back for a second before they read what they write?

For the 80th time, the comparison that matters is not to QBs in Bears franchise history, it is to modern NFL QBs. It doesn't matter what Erik Kramer did, that was then, this is now. Cutler needs to be compared to his peers, not Sid Luckman.

Probably, we are stuck with Cutler, so we have to keep miraculously hoping for the improvement that still hasn't appeared by age 31 (does that statistic matter? No?). Maybe some desperate team trades for him. Maybe the 49ers, who just signed their own QB to a long overpaid contract in a "change-of-venues" type deal? Doubt it, but I can dream.

Wait, am I reading it correctly, that you would take Kaepernick in a straight-across trade?

Cutler sucks, but I'd take him over Kaepernick 100 times over.

yes. I absolutely would. There are a few reasons why.

1) Kaepernick's deal is 5 years guaranteed for injury only. It also has a de-escalator clause that requires him to get wildly better every year or they can cut him for nothing. It is an extremely team-friendly contract. Cutler's contract is more or less the exact opposite.

2) A mobile QB is exactly the kind of QB a team with our receivers and our O line needs. Our receivers are big physical receivers, not downfield route running specialists. They aren't long downfield threats, so Kaepernick's huge accuracy issues are less relevant. And our semi-porous pass blocking line would benefit with more running, not less.

3) BOTH Cutler and Kaepernick could probably use a change of venue, to any almost any other venue, simply to get away from the fanbases and systems that have soured on them.

4) Kaepernick is cheaper and younger.

So, yes, I would take that in a straight-up deal, particularly for reason #1. But the 49ers won't make that trade. It's just me talking, there's no rumor to this.

I gotta say that I loved when Jay shouted out loud enough for the field mics to pick up, "Tell Martz to fuck off" as he broke huddle and was walking up to the line of scrimmage.

Martz was just a stubborn old jackoff. Hope he was embarrassed.

Martz was an offensive guru, who did not have confidence enough in cutler to allow him to audible.

We are seeing that Martz was right in that regard.

But like I commented before and started a ton of shit over, it was simple coverage with the reads, the DB is outside, the receiver goes inside. DB is inside, the receiver goes outside. That made it simple enough anyone could run, but there were still issues with Jay blaming receivers for running the wrong route, and they were the ones right next to the DB.

I am sure if the bears ever got to the line of scrimmage in 15 seconds the coach would tell him what to audible to.

Flat out lie... untrue... NOT EVEN close... Martz's system DIDN'T have audibles. None.

It was a sight adjustment scheme and even had in-route adjustments. The theory is that whatever the defense lines up in the WR's and QB should KNOW what to adjust to. and just do it. No need for words (audibles)... (We had pretty stupid receivers when Martz was here) That O was also predicated on 7step drops and Jay got killed in nearly every game.
Martz was known as an asshole- was fired from the Rams and nobody wanted him, until Lovie was out of options, nobody OC wanted interview for a lame duck coach... and Lovie didn't even give him an interview until late Feb. well after the SB and most other OC's had been hired. It was a favor. Martz hasn't been hired since either- "offensive guru"? sure for about 5 minutes.

The one thing I keep asking myself- and I'll ask the board:
Have Bear fans as a whole EVER liked it's Quarterback? Really? What makes anyone think they will like the next guy?

You're making it sound like the Chicago Bears have had a ton of talent at the QB position, yet the fans have rejected them for no apparent reason.

Outside of Jim McMahon or Sid Luckman, feel free to list all of the Chicago Bears QB's that were elite (or even average) that the Bears fans have disliked?

I'll give you that these knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing Bear fans gave Jay a tough time early in his stint as the signal caller here in Chicago when he had no offensive line or wideouts to speak of, but since the front office went out and acquired a ton of talent for the offensive side of the ball to address these issues, we still have not seen hardly any improvement in Jay.

Even if you say that the Bears have been riddled with injuries especially along the offensive line this year, what is Jay Cutler's excuse for the beginning of the year when most everyone was healthy? The fact of the matter is that he has consistently underperformed especially for the highest paid QB in the league.

Is Jay the only problem with the offensive side of the ball? Hell no. He's just, in my humble estimation, the biggest part of the problem. And since it looks like we're heading into a long rebuilding phase and since Jay will be 32 years old next season, I don't see why we would hold onto him only to get the team gelling just in time for him to retire.....then we go through it all over again with a new QB.

I think there was a point in Jay's career where he could have righted the course and could have been a very good QB, but he happened to land in Chicago where the Front Office didn't have a clue and refused to protect him with a decent offensive line and refused to give him weapons he needed to compete at a high level. This forced him to act on his instincts and forced him to ignore necessary fundamentals that make good QB's good. In other words, JA and Lovie ruined him and I personally believe we cannot fix him.

Am I right? Who the eff knows? I've been wrong before, but I don't think I'm wrong on this.

I liked Jim McMahon. Cutler's a better QB, but I liked crazy Jim more. I will like the next guy if I think he can win it for us. I used to think that of Cutler. I don't any more.

I had buyers remorse the day we signed him. I was told I was wrong and he was a great deal. I wanted to franchise him and see how this year went.

I've said it once; I'll say it again.

Jay Cutler will be the starting QB of the Titans next season.

You heard it here first.

The Titans are one of the worst teams in football, and are also in possibly the worst shape out of anyone going forward. They REALLY don't have much to build around that I can see.

If they want to trade for a career underachieving 31 year old QB, and take his GIGANTIC contract on their payroll. Hey… go for it.

Of course not, why would we? They've been awful, for the most part.

I fail to understand why that means we should stop trying to find one that is good.

The point I was making is based more on support... I know we haven't had a good QB.
(until Jay) I completely get rich's point of WHY would we like any of the guys we've had? The list is awful!

I guess I just always resort back to that 10/11 year old kid who lived for Bears Sundays... and played quarterback...and we would play backyard pickup games I would always "be" the Bears QB... "Harbaugh drops back...Touchdown!!" I wore the #9 in grade school for McMahon...#4 in HS for Jim Harbaugh NOT Brett Favre... I guess it's just me then. As a kid I just idolized Thee Chicago BEARS Quarterback... that was my team and MY QB... (this was all before 24 hour sports news and the internet of course)... I really didn't care if he was all world... It was enough that he played for MY team. I know that's naive... I know that many fans don't think that way anymore.

If you guys haven't noticed...since I got here... I'm not a fan of gut reactions. And...I know you all hate this term, but Meatball Fans... (and honestly/truly I've enjoyed the conversations on here, after admittedly, a rocky start) The knuckle-dragging, mouth breathers (thanks WB) that I've been reading posting in comment sections of NP articles and calling sports talk radio simply won't quit. They don't have that same "childlike naivety"... of "Our QB"... Not many do. I get it. I just hope... I want nothing more then to shut-up the knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing, meatballs and have them eat crow... Of course in our internet age- No matter what Jay/Insert Bears QB does there will always be an opinion that HE (whoever he is) SUCKS!!!

Yeah. That's what I wanted, but obviously I was on board when they did sign him.

Looks like I was wrong.

well, the source on the article was OC Kromer.

Tearful apology reported in the locker room.

I guess everyone that say something derogatory about this team has to apologize.

You don't understand.

It's the way he did it. Not what he said. He betrayed the team's trust, went under an anonymous tag and talked to a reporter behind the team's back.

Players are quoted saying that this is one of the most messed up things they have ever seen.

I listened to Mully and Hanley all morning. Every big name you could think of called in, and said what Kromer did was so above and beyond unforgivable. Doug Buffone said the staff should be fired before the game Monday.

I tend to side with the LARGE group of great players who think this is messed up.

Patrick Mannelly's show follows Mully and Hanley in The 670 lineup and also said this is the final straw. They need to blow it up.

If every NFL player and their mother is saying this is an F'd up thing to do. I believe them...

This story is blowing up now.
Everyone is pissed about everyone.
Marshall has cryptic tweets- seemingly blaming players/supporting coaches...and supporting/blaming Jay... who fucking knows. It's a mess.

Do have a question for the board- Many in the media are now saying that Kromer should be fired on the spot for going outside the "code of the LR" and speaking to the media. Throwing his player under the bus.

During the "emotional apology" Cutler is reported to be shaking his head. (I take that as, he Jay, doesn't believe his apology and is just blowing smoke)

Can the offensive meeting room believe what a coach is saying now in meetings- and support his game plan if they think he's just going to go to the media and shit on them afterward?

I know the "haters" are loving it- saying- YEAH he's just telling the truth about Jay!!

Would a new player next year be comfortable coming into that meeting room, knowing that this is a problem? Players don't trust the coach?

Is this also an indictment of Trestman's overall lack of control of the team?

I've been saying all along that Tresty will get another year... at this point I'm willing get rid of all this shit. (Jay and Marshall stay based on contract)
