I mean, let’s not get carried away here. Compare that to what was happening before. We’re in no way out of the pac championship race this year. We’ve had the best defense in the Pac every year this staff has been here. They clearly can win at this level. And one day we’re bound to get a competent offensive staff, then watch out world!

Im not...…...Just trying to see what others are thinking.....

I mean I basically asked a question someone on the outside not knowing what this program has to offer and they just looked at the last four half years stat and record wise.....

I'll probably need to re-watch the game sober at some point.

Kind of strange that suddenly people are shitting on Chris Petersen. In 5 years here he is 42-19 (.689) with a PAC-12 Championship, a CFP appearance and a NY6 game.

To put things into perspective, here are the first five years of previous head coaches:
Steve Sarkisian: 34-29
Tyrone Willingham: 11-37
Keith Gilbertson: 7-16
Rick Neuheisel: 33-16
Jim Lambright: 38-19-1
Don James: 35-22
Jim Owens: 31-19-4

I don't believe that anyone is suggesting a coaching change, but in 5 years what Chris Petersen has done for the Huskies thus far is objectively speaking the best 5 year start of any head coach in UW football history and it's not really even close.

Is there room to improve? Of course there is. You can say there is room to improve for every program with the exception of Alabama.

Just a reminder to keep it all in perspective.

I kind of went that far in my response to nabb, but I don't believe he was actively suggesting replacing Petersen. It was more a general question of what this staff (whole staff as currently comprised) has as far as a ceiling and have they reached it.

Look, the cougs aren't really a threat to reach the CFP and yet they know Leach is about as solid as they are going to get for that program given all of their disadvantages.

UW isn't a blue blood. There is but one in the whole conference with that history and even they are struggling bad with finding top shelf coaching. UW is the kind of school where you should expect a run at it at least every 3-4 years. They just won't draw the kind of 5* national athletes in the numbers needed to really compete with the likes of Bama, OSU, Clemson, etc. That's not to say you can't beat those teams, but be at their expected level every single year? No way. It's unreasonable expectation.

You will have to have those special runs here and there. That special QB and/or unstoppable playmakers. Those once in a decade defenders. They have, and will continue, to filter through here and those windows will open.

They would just do so more frequently if they fixed the issues at OC. I get some haven't given up on Hamdan yet and I don't know where I'm at with whatever his ceiling might be, but we wasted a full season that had so much potential by running a high school level offense and that is just sad. Aubun was entirely beatable, but they took more than a half to get their crap together. There is really no excuse to losing to a duck team that isn't at your level and on a first year HC. I really don't care about the injuries or coming off back to back road games vs a team coming off a bye. They had to win that game and entirely blew it. They weren't outplayed, they beat themselves and the issues are both glaring and persistent. We have seen them all year. They have yet to really play a decent game and the season is half over.

It's frustrating because of the talent they are flat out wasting by throwing away a year for OJT of a guy clearly not ready to lead a D1 power offense.

But no way should Petersen be considered on any type of hot seat. At all. Even a little. Doesn't mean I'm not personally going to call him out for continued issues HE is responsible for fixing. There is no other coach in the conference I would trade for him, and not many nationwide I would even consider either.

Exactly this. Everyone’s standard isn’t just Don James, it’s really the romanticized version of Don James. It’s not like his teams won the conference and went to the Rose Bowl every year.

You nailed it saying there’s plenty of room for improvement, and we’re all on here more than willing to point it out, but all the overreacting you see across social media, questioning if Petersen and his staff are “the guy”... Jesus Christ. They’ve more than exceeded my expectations for the first 5 years. Anyone who truly isn’t happy with where the program is at in general clearly jumped ship and didn’t pay attention during the down years, and doesn’t actually remember the reality of being a successful program.

Too late....rumbling underground that he might be a target. I hope he doesn't suck. I figured it would be him or the WSU guy.
He doesn’t suck. Our D coordinator willingly stepped down last year so Lake could have the title and stay here, to give you an idea of his reputation. He’s already making at least 1.1 million as a coordinator, so I’d think his next stop will be a head coaching gig. But who knows what Oklahoma would be willing to throw at him and what he wants to do...

I’ll add I don’t know that I’m any more impressed with the defense with him calling plays, to put it nicely, but there’s no doubt what he brings to the secondary is something special.

Replace Sean McGrew on there with Kamari Pleasant and you get the same result on the right side of that pic.

They might have even been able to get in the end zone the way that drive was going.

Yes I wasn't saying Coach Pete should be on hot a seat! ( I should have been a little more clear on that)

Now I will say I do question the way the coaching staff handled the end of the 4th quarter. Personally knowing my kicker is a head case, my QB has a pretty damn good second half, and my #3 and #4 were running the ball pretty damn good for youngsters ( hell even the tv crew was talking them up) also knowing Oregon still had two time outs plus we had time outs so why not play out the 3rd and one, why not make Oregon use those time outs instead of letting them use them on my head case kicker?

My other issue is Jimmy Lake. And this me being a DC myself, but Herbert under pressure will throw the ball up, or down! He's not accurate when he's forced out of the pocket. Why not turn the LB's lose on his ass? Why would you let him sit in that pocket and pick your zone coverage apart. That QB showed them in the first half that under pressure he would be careless with that ball, why there wasn't a half time adjustment to that is really bugging the hell out of me.....

CP has turned this program around so obviously no one should be calling for the axe, but he needs to find a way for this team to win the big games. All the stars lined up last week to move up the rankings and coughed it up.

Get us a real OC and stop with the shitty play calling and clock management.

Dude is just a beast. Not sure if he translates to LB at the next level, but I bet he at least emerges as a special teams player. He can fly and his tackling is just nearly perfect.
