The Woods (2016)

Synopsis: A group of college students on a camping trip discover they are not alone.
Kudos to the teaser trailer & synopsis for not giving anything away. This is how trailers should be done IMO. Nothing irritates me more than when the trailer gives everything away. Most of the time I stop a trailer 30s in because of that. The director & writer tandem of Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett, who brought us V/H/S, V/H/S 2, The Guest, and You're Next, return for their next project. I've loved everything that I have seen from these guys, so I have no reason to think this movie is anything less than good. In the acting department they have a bunch of no-namers with heavy backgrounds in TV. Hard to tell what this movie has in store for us, but the suspense looks riveting. The filming style looks like a solid blend of normal 3rd person & 1st person. Aside from the obvious forest setting, this movie looks like it has a lot in store for us. Count me in!
Haha I was wondering what that was about...thought you were making some kind of inside joke.
Here is a good one! Green Room
A broke punk rock band (including Anton Yelchin- RIP) living out of a van on the road takes a gig out in the middle of nowhere for what turns out to be a white supremacists club. They witness a murder backstage and have to try to escape from the "green room" (common name for the performer's waiting room in the backstage area). The situation disintegrates into a bloody mess as both sides battle it out.
This is one of the better I have seen in awhile. Acting good? Check. Direction solid? Check? Gore and violence? Check and check. Gritty, disturbing horror-thriller? Check, check, check!
Few flaws in this one. Has a kind of Hostel feel to it without the over-the-top torture stuff.
Positives:
*As already mentioned, solid all-around production on a relatively low budget. Acting, directing, fxs, are all pluses.
*A well established nasty and realistic feel.
*Gratuitous Patrick Stewart as the big bad leader of the douchebag neo-nazis.
*Rottweilers like to bite!
*Real punk rock music! No Hollywood cop-out BS.
Negatives:
Not many. But nitpicking a little..........
*Storyline is paper thin. But that is intentional. It is what it is and does not try to be anything more.
*Captain Picard/Prof. X does a weird ass accent that is from nowhere I have ever heard before.
*It seems that the bad guys could have wiped them out pretty quick with a little more aggressiveness but they do attempt to give it a plausible explanation.
I give it a solid 8 out of 10. Creeping towards an 8.5!
Joe Bob sez check it out!
That actually sounds good. Patrick Stewart seems an odd choice for a redneck neo nazi group with his English accent. Did he use a redneck accent?
