Mostly I buy them for the squirrels and magpies.

Did you know Magpies will also horde and bury peanuts? I watched them dig and stuff the peanuts into the neighbors lawn.

I’ve lived in the South my entire life, and somehow did not try boiled peanuts until a few years ago. Disgusting. Maybe if I tried them when I was younger and more stupid they could have appealed to me. I felt like I was eating something that came out of the drain trap from under my sink......

No, you don't eat the shell. Just the inside. If they are cooked right they should be soft but not soggy.
