The Oregon Ducks of baseball, Arizona has 8 new uniforms. Free agents are the recruits and they're digging it yo.

Barring a significant injury, I expect 4 good & 2 questionable seasons. The deferred money should help offset AAV. Overall, this will likely look like Randy Johnson's stint in AZ.

Taking on projected bad seasons is just part of the process when signing big name FA's these days. I don't mind it, I think he can pitch well later in his career too, he doesn't rely completely on overpowering people for his success.

My concern (from a Dbacks' perspective) is that this is too much for what they get, compared to what they need.

They have a top 5 offense and top 5 defense. But their staff is pretty rough. They don't have another SP making more than league minimum. What do they expect to get with that? He will obviously help, and bring LA down a notch, but it cost them 1/3 of their payroll.

And that's 1/3 to 1/4 of their payroll for the next 6 years. It just seemed to me that they needed so much more pitching than one arm, even if it's Greinke. He's only out their every 5th day and costs 1/3 of the entire payroll.

Plus, LA has 20 mil freed up from it, so it's not like they won't go out and fill that spot.

It could very well work out, and work big. But everything is riding on Greinke coming in and not only winning all of his outings, but also inspiring the rest of the staff making league minimum to go .500. Every year it doesn't happen is more pressure, and payroll lost in a 6 year commitment.

We'll see :noidea:
