The football fan in me wants this to happen. Hardy is a great talent, and could be a game changer for this defense. The rational side of me thinks this is a big risk. I just hope this a decision made by the organization, as a whole, and not just Jerry.

There is trying to fill in spots where you need help, and then there is trying to fill a big hole.

From the we were at the bottom of the barrel in sacks last year standpoint. This is tempting as hell.

Well off field issues aside Hardy is a helluva football player and he makes the Boys Better. I just cringe at the thought of him having a domestic issue but if he does he is out of football for sure with the new NFL policy.

Everyone makes mistakes, not to mention he was never convicted, and correct me if wrong no charges were filed on him. I mean that's like saying Dez is guilty of a tape that no one has even seen, all the media has seen are apparent pics, which we all know photoshop is amazing. I'd say if no charges or conviction do it. Do you know what we'd be able to do in the draft with signing him?

Think about it in first we could draft Gurley or Gordon, or we could draft Holliman and have no fears about pass rush being a problem or needing to be addressed until the 3rd round for depth at that point. We'd haev our starting DL of Lawrence, Crawford, 1tech?, and Hardy with Mincey as a swing end, as well as draft depth. He will fix a MAJOR problem, bottom line.

Report: 'Good chance' DE Greg Hardy gets six-game suspension

Mon, 16 Mar 2015 10:00 AM ET

1137463.jpg

There's a "good chance" free agent defensive end Greg Hardy will be suspended for the first six games of the season, reports SI's Peter King. A judge last year convicted Hardy of assaulting and threatening his ex-girlfriend, but he asked for a jury trial and the case was dismissed when his accuser could not be located to testify.

King reported Hardy "certainly is repelling his share of suitors" due to his potential suspension and "the public battering" a team would incur for signing him. Hardy, 26, posted 26 sacks in 2012 and 2013 for the Panthers before spending most of last season on the commissioner's exempt list.

This would suck if he did become a Cowboy

No, no, no...Not the same at all. I'm not saying don't look into the player (I brought up looking at him a couple of days ago), but let's not pretend this is based solely on rumor either...

6 game suspension isn't the end of the world. If he can step in and make an impact in week 7 then I'm good. As long as he's there for the playoff push/playoffs that's all that matters.

And in his contract he's only paid for half a season, though I don't know the logistics on how that would work. Pretty sure you would have to sign him to a contract with 2015 being paid for a 16 game season and then the league would decide how many game checks he would be giving up and what fines they would add.

If Jerry waited 3 months for Brent, I could see him waiting 6 weeks for a sack a game DE....

I'm hearing the same thing. I'm also hearing that it is doubtful they reach a deal before the NFL rules on his possible discipline, and that nothing is imminent. Dallas' coaching staff has been in touch with Hardy's old coaches to gauge his character with good reviews. Going over possible contract terms...

if the NFL rules that he sits for 6 games the suspension doesn't start until he signs with someone. so if he signs with a team now or 6 games into the season he still has to serve his suspension. not saying that i want him but if the Cowboys want him it makes sense to sign him now get the 6 games (if it happens) suspension over with early and get him on the field for the last 10 games of the season

Actualy he was convicted by a judge...He then chose to go a Jury route.....all the transcripts form the original trial are being supplied to the NFL.....So...for him to be convicted originally, I would assume there is something there the NFL will latch onto...to give him a suspension....

He is a difference maker, and somebody will take a shot on him....he would definetly fill a position of need for Dallas.....Im betting Hardy will be wanting a 1 year deal to prove he is a good guy...come in after the suspension (if one)...do his thing and look to cash in next year........

Different States Laws make this very interesting. Hardy was convicted by a Judge in a 10 hour trial.
If you are convicted in District court you can appeal to superior court and have a jury trial per North Carolina State Law. In N.C. District Court they do not have a trial transcript recorded by the state. Hardy's defense team hired their own court reporter to document every word said and upon appeal the Defense is allowed to use the trial transcript and does not have to share with the Prosecution. They did share after the usual legal wrangling and the Prosecution decided not to go ahead with trial because of discrepancy's in Hardy's girlfriend's Testimony vs what she said the night of the incident.

She reached a civil settlement with Hardy and has not been cooperating with the Prosecution since November.

Research and draw your own conclusions.

I agree. Just goes back to what I've been trying to say here before, Jerry is in a win-now mode with Romo, and may be willing to take certain risks now on proven vet talent, versus the ever-present unknown talent with rookies in the draft, and/or, possibly waiting on talent to either fall to them and/or pan out as expected. Getting someone like Hardy would improve a lethargic defensive front and pass rush without question, and would also help out the guys on the back end...which is why Barry Church supports this team getting Hardy I'm sure.

Well, that certainly explains why she stopped cooperating. The legal system isn't supposed to work differently for the "privileged", but obviously it does...
