Here's a hypothetical for you, say that Geno prices himself out of the Seahawks range. What do you do? Do you tag and try to trade him? Do you let him walk? If so, what do you do with the savings of not having to pay him $30m+ a year? A lot of what we do this offseason will be dependent on what happens with Geno.

You need to sign him before FA. He'll be the best value for the team at the time. Not signing him puts us in a place where we need another lottery pick to hit at QB.

Weren't we, "Poised to take a major fall" last season, too?

Yes, and Denver was Super Bowl bound... course when I said I'd be surprised if Denver made the playoffs, I was just a bitter Seahawks fan...

That's the exact tactic that is getting other teams in trouble though. You really have to be selective on who you use this with, or it gets out of hand quickly. It only takes 5 or 6 of these deals to wreck your cap space.

True. I just wonder given Carroll only has 3 years left (I think?) if he'll just rack up the debt to build as competent of a team in the NOW and then screw over anyone coming in, in 2025... and in 2025 he might just say, "Aw F it, I retire." He doesn't need that last $10M at this point lol. Yah that's a shitty move, but I could see it. Schneider is also what, almost mid 60s? He might not be that far from retiring either.

Kind of shitty for us fans if that's how it goes down, but if we have no cap room by 2025 and we absolutely suck, I guess we'll draft a top 3 QB in 2026? lol. Anyway, I hope all that is not the case because I think we nailed this draft and have a lot of good young talent. Lucas/Cross might be quite expensive by 2025 (and I know Cross wasn't elite, he's also 21...), Walker, Woolen, and Mafe wasn't bad, he was very serviceable given how raw he was. It would suck to let those guys walk because we racked up the credit card.

In the AFC West prediction thread on the main board I picked Denver to finish 4th... Mainly due to Raiders, Chiefs, Chargers being so good... I did take the Chargers to win the division though...

We have no reason to believe that they are going to mortgage the future. They haven't done that yet.

Oh I know we have no reason and they haven't done anything like that... just curious whether it could.

I doubt it. Pete is all about culture. Bringing in high priced free agents isn't really part of that.

I can't make up my mind on what to do with him.

Do I think he's worth $30m+ a year? Probably not, but that is the going rate for even an average starting QB these days.

I think Seattle would be just fine with a rookie QB given the offense (assuming you find a new center) and that's FAR cheaper than $30M.

Metcalf, Lockett, Goodwin, Walker, Cross/Lucas, Lewis (if he can stay healthy), and then Fant/Dissly/Parkinson? And then you've got a good offensive coordinator who now has a QB coach he's worked with? This isn't the fuckin' Panthers or Texans... the entire offense is a stud group surrounding the QB.

Jesus... why the hell are you spending $30M per year for a QB with that crew? Plug and play a high rated rookie for $7M per and call it a fuckin' day.

$20M per for Geno. Fine... that's it. And that's $20M per year for 2 years ($40M total), with $15M guaranteed. Add some incentives in if that pushes the needle.

I feel that a lot of Seahawks fans have convinced themselves that QBs are like RBs and fairly interchangeable. That isn't even true with RBs. It's certainly not true for QBs.

Drafting a QB and letting him start on Day 1 might be the right call in the long wrong but there is almost ZERO chance that he will be nearly as good as Geno as a rookie.

Let's not forget that we had a double digit win offense and a 6 win defense last year.

this right now reminds me of how they went about it before drafting Wilson in 2012 with a 3rd round pick. T-jack was here they Traded for Flynn and brought in Wilson with a 3rd round pick. I say they keep Lock here bring in a young guy that's a FA and draft a QB in the 3rd or 4th round depending on who is there. To me thats the best option going forward. Need to not tie up a lot of money at QB yet, to much still needs to be built up.

The difference is the high rated QBs like Luck were all off the board before Seahawks first pick.

And? I still don't want them taking a QB with the 5th pick. Take a shot to get McKee in the 3rd. Some places have him going in the 3rd. They took a chance and got Wilson I say do it again take your chances in the 3rd.

Couple other guys like Haener, Tune, or 4th, 5th rounders Duggar, O'Connell.

I would feel more comfortable taking one of those guys than one at #5.

I would like them ranked like this
McKee
O'Connell, Tune
Haener
Duggar

I think more than one of these guys is going to have success in the NFL.

Nah, I think any of those guys have a solid shot to win the starting job and play well. Maybe not playoff worthy but i think they could grow into a solid QB. Then a year or two who knows maybe they take the next step they all have a high ceiling.

I also dont see 8 QB's getting drafted in the first 2 rounds. McKee could very well drop into their laps in the 3rd.

I'd say the odds were long, real long of any besides maybe McKee have any success and Haener and Duggins very well could get picked in the 3rd or 4th round because so many teams can use a QB especially one that is cheap cheap cheap even if it's more for depth.

Nah you want the Seahawks to fill as many holes as possible except at QB so they can grab a top ten pick (hopefully) in 2024.

Thats why Haener and Duggan are my lowest rated.
