Liam Hendriks to White Sox for 3 yr/$54M. For a reliever that's insane.

Agreed. He's been elite the last few years, but this is one that I could see blowing up in their faces like Kimbrel did for the Cubs.

Jon Lester signed with the Nats for a year. He looked rather toasty in 2020, but hopefully he can at least get his 200th win. Pretty amazing how durable Lester's been, he made 31+ starts every year from 2008-19 and made 12 in the shortened 2020 season. Also has a career 2.51 ERA in 154 postseason IP with three rings. Not a bad career.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Twins and J.A. Happ are in agreement on a one-year contract.

The deal -- which is pending a physical -- is worth $8 million, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Happ is 38, but he's worthy of a one-year pact after putting up a 3.47 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 42/15 K/BB ratio in 49 1/3 innings over nine starts with the Yankees in 2020. The Twins could still use a high-end arm in their rotation, but the veteran left-hander is a solid addition.

Happ slots in at #3 behind Maeda and Berrios. The Twins could definitely use a genuine ace, though.
This said, I like the pick up. As has been said many times, there is no "bad" 1 year contract.

Profar signs with the Pads. 3 years/$21M.

Damn, wouldn't have minded to see the Red Sox sign him. 101 OPS+ over the last 3 years while playing a lot of 2B/3B/SS/LF. Definitely could have used that kind of versatility.

Buster Olney said he will bet his farm on Springer to the Mets

Bauer pitching himself hard to the Mets, that will be a massive overpay IMO

as long as they stay away from Lemehiue, I’m good
Olney fucked that up.

Zimmerman will be back in Washington on a $1M deal. He can still hit lefties.

Red Sox signed Kike Hernandez (2 years, $14M) and Garrett Richards (1 year, $10M; club option for 2022). I like the Hernandez signing just because of the versatility he brings, granted he's useless against righties. Sign Pederson and reunite the Kike/Pederson platoon. Pederson would be a boost to a thin OF IMO.

Richards finally had a healthy "season" and had OK peripherals. He also threw under 150 innings from 2016-19. If, by some stroke of luck he stays healthy, he'd provide some much needed depth. It's also nice because they can let Houck start in AAA to work on developing a reliable third pitch.

How the eff were the Mets not on this? I'm pissed. And to lose him to a rival.

Good move for the Nats. Hand is a good pitcher. Lets see how he does.

WS or bust for bravos

Braves re-signed INF Pablo Sandoval to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network says that Sandoval will receive a $1 million salary if in the majors. The 34-year-old finished last season with the Braves after spending most of it with the Giants. He was useful in 2019, but if Sandoval winds up playing much in 2021 it's probably not a good sign for the Braves

The only justification for not signing Hand is if the Mets get Bauer. Then Matz probably goes to the bullpen but still, he's exactly what they needed.
