I think the two cups hold credence to the Jackets and what they think he can do as a player and I think the situations are somewhat different as far as leverage and what not - I don't think there was a real chance of RyJo going elsewhere because he IS the best player(or at least forward) on the team and it would have been more damaging if CBJ lost him to someone else and had to trade him

Yeah, the Cups helped Saads negotiations big time...but man, it's just a ton of money for a young guy. Suppose I may just need to get used to these kind of things now, becoming more prominent.

I find that a bit interesting too. I'm not entirely convinced that Saad is worth that but it's not outrageous. Could turn out to be excellent value and it could turn out to be a bad contract. Probably means that the risk is shared and it's a pretty fair deal.

What I find strange is the insistence on making RyJo take a bridge deal while just ponying up for Saad right off the hop.

The difference is Joey's first two pro seasons were 1) Demoted to AHL and benched when he got there and 2) breakout and was team's best player. Jackets just wanted an assurance of which Johansen they were getting before committing years and dollars. Two years after that, they know. His next contract is going to be huge.

By contrast, Saad has three pro seasons; 10, 19 and 23 goals, two cups, played a major role in this one and was generally considered the top RFA on the market. Can play in any situation consistently too.

Rest assured, if Johansen's first three seasons included 2 cups, he'd have already gotten paid. The Jackets are about giving management what they want. Saad gave Chicago what the Jackets wanted. But he's delivered. Bob took a bridge with similar questions to Johansen - which Bob are we getting. They know now. He got paid.

I expect Murray to be offered a bridge because the question is whether he can stay healthy. Jenner may just get a long term deal. Although his health comes into question too. But he does everything else they want to see.

If Murray has a breakout year and stays healthy doing so, guessing he isn't going to feel the same way.

Leafs sign Matthias, bringing the number of Ontariya Boys on the roster to 8.

From the Sportsnet link:

The 27-year-old forward, who can play both centre and wing, quietly enjoyed a stellar season in Vancouver, a team too tight on salary cap space to keep him in the fold.

Matthias’ career-high 18 goals in 2014-15 ranked third among all Canucks, a mark he reached playing bottom-six minutes and without the benefit of power-play looks

He got the bulk of those goals before March 1st and was a non-factor down the stretch and in the playoffs against the Flames. That said, for 2.3 million, I think it's a okay signing.

he seemed to just quit when it became apparent that he wasnt going to get re-signed by the canucks which is not so great ... but i agree, its an okay signing

He would have fit right in with the 2014-15 Leafs.....not so sure that will be an option this season

If consistent Matthias will be a good add for Toronto and help with their secondary scoring.

Seems everyone noticed. No big deal and no term. Not a loss for us as I'd rather fill a spot with a prospect

Lots of potential but it's just too much, IMO. Successful teams control RFA contracts and the Caps haven't done that in this case.
At the same age Kadri got 2 years and $5.8m coming off a 44 pt in 48 game season. Kuznetsov wasn't anywhere near that production but the cap was $7 mil less than it is now. It's a tad on the high side but not awful.

That's a great deal for Vladdy.

Now the Blues just need to fix the team around him. Good thing the offseason has barely gotten underway...
