Apparently there's a tennis player named Dustin Brown who won at Wimbledon. Seeing Dustin Brown trending on Twitter a million things went through my mind, needless to say it was pretty disappointing see what it was actually about.

I know, right? Right?

And why hasnt Franson signed yet? He better take something quick, else he may be back in TOR by default.

It appears that GMs are moving as fast to sign Franson as Franson moves on the ice...

TSN discussed it a bit at the end of their coverage, saying they mostly felt it was a cap crunch. Teams have money, but need to be more astute about how they use it. I think it's a lot that, but still...those teams still not at the cap floor? Shocked they haven't thrown out a ridiculous offer. There's been discussion that demand simply isn't high for the supply, especially not this sterling supply. Franson is one I'm surprised hasn't been thrown a crazy offer, but maybe he has but doesn't want to go to that team. Certainly respect him taking his time to make a decision.

As long as Saad wasn't a product of his line (relatively doubtful), that should be very, very affordable moving forward.

Well, Johansen's agent said that Joey's most direct comparable was Jonathan Toews.

No better way to prove it. If Saad has no drop off, then Johansen is going to be rolling in cash next summer.

And when the man child is motivated...

Both those two have a lot to prove. Saad that he can stand on his own and is worth all this (he's extremely overvalued in the PIT market, that's for sure...wonder why.), Johansen that he's the elite center he's touted to be and showed sparks of recently. They should motivate each other on that alone, let alone the whole "let's win!" thing. I'm sure it doesn't really bug him, but it's interesting to see the money Saad got relative to Johansens deal. That said, one has 2 Cups, one of which he was a pretty big part of. Still interesting...

If the metro could stop this "let's all load up!" thing, that'd be great.

I find that a bit interesting too. I'm not entirely convinced that Saad is worth that but it's not outrageous. Could turn out to be excellent value and it could turn out to be a bad contract. Probably means that the risk is shared and it's a pretty fair deal.

What I find strange is the insistence on making RyJo take a bridge deal while just ponying up for Saad right off the hop.

I think the two cups hold credence to the Jackets and what they think he can do as a player and I think the situations are somewhat different as far as leverage and what not - I don't think there was a real chance of RyJo going elsewhere because he IS the best player(or at least forward) on the team and it would have been more damaging if CBJ lost him to someone else and had to trade him

I think I read 3 years and 3.25 million per season. Good for Joel Ward, I like that dude.

But why San Jose? He's a playoff performer.

j/k. Glad he didn't stay in the East. Love that guy.

Agreed, with it all. The bridge deal certainly stands out. I think they're comparable players, so it's interesting to see the comparison of how each deal panned out. Also super agree about the deal. I really like Saad, not convinced he's a $6M player, but he's worth that risk. It's not obscene unless he becomes some giant bust, which I doubt. Worst case is he's a serviceable top 6.
