If he is good enough to be transition tagged, we need to simply work out a long term deal.

There will be a few flies in the ointment though, not the least of which is the $16.1 million we have committed else where. I think before they can get a long term deal with Kirk, the other QB meat will have to be released. And as i expect the team to hold his rights until the last possible second, we may have no choice bot to Tag Kirk if we want to keep him.

OH and spoiler alert, the only way we get anything back on that other deal at this point is to actually NOT release him, pay the $16.1 and hope we can trade him and have his new team pick up some or all of that. Because the Comp pick rules state, teams dont get a comp pick for a player released because the team had the ability to retain the player.

I know I some what dragged that off topic, but just pointing out WHY I think the only option is going to be to franchise tag him. That is if we want to keep him around.

The other option is to let him test the market, but I think if we trans tag him, we lose him any way.

My opinion... If he finishes the season like we hope he does, the Tag is a serious option. But only if they cant get a long term deal done. We might end up doing a little bit of shuffle work if we need to tag him initially though.

I think the $16 million dollar man is held until the last minute, unless they use the time heading up to the league year start to try and deal him. Thats dicey though as the deal cant be done until AFTER the guarantee becomes due. And it would such arse to have a deal in place, pick up the option only to have said named team, decide NOT to do it after we pick up the option. Which of course is what I would do if I were say Philly, or Dallas.

it really depends on our positioning with regard to the cap. If we can franchise him and have plenty left, sure. I prefer a 2-3 year deal much cheaper than some of you believe he would get...and I think the transition would do that anyways.

I think a long term deal will be worked out. I believe KC wants to stay here b/c of Gruden. Although KC would be the #1 FA QB on the market. KC is in a good situation especially if he wins a playoff game.

We would have to do some cutting and or restructuring/extending in order to tag him. Or simply cut Griffin.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. We should hold off on mentioning the P word until we are capable of stringing together two wins in a row I would think.

True anything can happen but we are the favorites. The Giants should lose 3 more games b/c their o-line is just riddled with injuries. We play the Cowboys twice with Cassell. Eagles are in disarray. The table is pretty much set for us. I know im bias but we have the easiest schedule left and we are playing good football.

KC only needs 2 Td's per game to get to 29 total TD's on the year. Wow. That is very doable. I hope he gets 30.

Dude, I have to remind you, the Cowboys have whooped our asses with the likes of Quincy Carter, An OLD Vinny the testicle, and IM sure IM forgetting another game where we SHOULD have beaten the backup and got slapped down. Records, whats left to play for and all that goes out the window in these games. You can bet they will come into this game with the mentality of playing spoiler. Not to mention that should NY lose Sunday, it gives them a glimmer of hope by beating us.

So I think the Cowboys are going to give this team the best game they have played all season without Romo in the lineup, possibly the best game they have played all season.

To this day. I can watch highlights from the 1974 Thanksgiving game and there's a part of me that thinks the Skins are still gonna win. Especially when they knock Staubach out the box and in comes Clint Longley. Or as Tom Landry called him after the game "Langley". Cuz ol' Tom didn't even know the correct way to pronounce his name.

The 2002 Turkey day game when a Chad Hucthinson QBed Cowboys team came from behind to beat a Spurrier coached/Wuerffel(sp) QBed Skins team, 27-20. Also the day I stopped drinking alcohol cuz I beat up a Cowboys fan and his girlfriend. Stemming from that ass0 claiming to be the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan ever. Yet he kept calling Golden Richards, Goldie Richards and Drew Pearson, Drew Preston and I just couldn't take it anymore. The Roy Williams 5 yard pick 6 cutting the Skins lead to 20-17 didn't do dude or his g/f any favors as that was the tipping point for me.

5 of dallas's 8 losses have been by a td or less 2 of which have been in OT , the 2 routs were to the undefeated pats (then ) and the panthers . those 2 teams blew us out

to think that a victory over cassell can be mailed in is blind homerism . we have a losing record with NO back to back wins or road wins . we arent that much better

We are looking too much into the road record. Look at the teams that we had to play on the road. Most of them are elite teams. We were not favored to win any of those games so people should not be surprised at our road record.

I understand Dallas should play us tough but being at home it should propel us to a victory. Plus this game means more to the Skins than Dallas. IF we are for real we should not lose this game.

And that is the big question...Are we for real? There is evidence on both sides of that argument.

Try to be objective. This works both ways. You are absolutely correct about the road record. However - the same concept applies towards the Redskins home wins. Almost all of those came against pretty bad teams.

Also - this idea that the Redskins will automatically win since it means more to them is nonsense. Again - teams that are playing for nothing can be very, very scary. Did you already forget that this was in play last season when the Redskins upset the Cowboys and Eagles? Redskins should be favored & I hope for a win but lets not pencil this in already.

Shark,

Why do you care so much about getting something for the RG3 trade? Move on already. It is water under the bridge & the byproduct of a previous FO. Even if they do some of the things that you suggest the pick or picks they receive in return will be minimal. The true value of letting RG3 go (no matter the method) will be that both RG3 and the franchise can move on & the Redskins can continue to build a solid team.

I swear that it appears that this thing haunts you constantly. Honestly - who cares? This is a thing of the past. Acknowledge it & let it go. This would be like people continuing to make a daily rant about Fat Al - makes no sense. Look at the good side of both of those moves. They ultimately forced the team to go in another direction and hire SM as their GM. Years from now we may be looking back on all of these things as a turning pt.

I always wondered by the transition tag is not used more often. No way I franchise Kirk and pay him the amount of money that would involve.

Dude, I could care less about us getting something from the trade. I bring it up because when you mention tagging Kirk, you cant look at it in a bubble. You have to look at the over all cap situation. And like as not, that is STILL a big part of our cap situation. Looking at all the angles, you cant simply ignore the fact that in order to tag Kirk, you have to release RG3 (Or cut, rework a bunch of other folks). And you also cant ignore the fact that Kirk would be alot less likely to sign a team friendly long term deal with Griffin still on the roster.

And no it doesnt haunt me, but it is still haunting this team.

First of all - I don't think that it haunts the team or at least not the people running the team. Mistakes were made & you move on. This is true for the Redskins as well as all of us. This is like spending years moaning & groaning about an ex - it is counterproductive.

I was not stating that the RG3 contract does not have a big impact. I agree that he needs to be released. I was simply referring to your reply that the Skins need to be diligent to try to recoup part of that deal. If they do get anything back - great - but a major priority should not be to get something back to make the previous deal not look too bad. Again - who cares. I think that Snyder, SM, Gruden & the rest could give a crap. Getting say a 5th rd pick would be nice, but not nearly as important as moving on w/o RG3. I have faith that SM will have plenty of other mid round picks to use to get quality players.

Oh well - let me take my own advice & move on. Perhaps we agree to disagree.
